What makes a good employee?

Someone who can work independently, but is not afraid to ask questions when they need further instruction or information. Somebody who takes the initiative to do things on their own, yet doesn't get in over their head without asking for help.

I think another is to take pride in your work...
When do you suppose a good employee needs to draw the line?

A good employee needs to draw the line when an employer tries to take advantage of an employee's loyalty.

Well... it seems some think a good employee does whatever it takes... and to me, that sounds really one sided.... somewhere between good employers and employees... there should be thought and consideration for both.

There are some things a boss should never expect or ask an employee to do. Nobody should be required to lie or do anything illegal or immoral.

I now understand what the phrase "married to your job" means... lol
Some sure do seem to be. Me, I take pride in my work, but will not make work my top priority.

One of the best employees I had was married to his job. He was always in well before time and cracked on with his work. He was always polite and helpful to everyone which was a contrast to his boss who also worked for me. He was a pain in the ass and if I could have found a way of swapping them around I would. Still, I like a challenge!

I can't make someone else's business my top priority. People get ahead at my expense....and I eventually tire of it. I do a job I definitely am proud of...just not going to kill myself to make other's wallets fat. (and it's not really appreciated...just expected)
