Smoking, and pollution, mainly. Also, heart disease, and a bad diet don't help any. Black lung disease from coal mining, or asbestos inhalation, among other things. Breathing in diesel fumes, or particulates from diesel, or the incomplete combustion of coal or oil fired power plants and car exhaust, but mainly from industrial pollution.

Well, sometimes sighs are simply a sign of boredom or frustration. At work, I often find it useful to silently sigh, instead of saying what I really think and getting myself in trouble...

I think a sigh is basically just a mini-yawn.

I agree with Tater,as i have read that sighing (yawning came from lack of oxygen. Maybe we all need to carry a little oxygen tank around to take a hit off it once in a while. Oxygen taken from a tank is supposed to help a person sober up faster from a hang over too,so i heard.

For me, it's lack of understanding of WHY trivial things seem to matter so much to some people! Huge upsets and arguments over things that are only for fun... never understood why! So, I sigh. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hiya, Tater! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I disagree. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
True, a sigh is a deliberate expression of exasperation,
as often as not. (Certainly when I do it, it most-likely is. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.])

BUT... also ... a sigh expresses contentment. awe, etc.
In any case - it is definitely SOOO NOT ! a "mini-yawn".
Neener-neener. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
