I suppose I would understand the problem with owning a dolphin more so than a few fish.
I never really thought of fish as pets like dogs and cats.

Well, a dolphin is a mammal, an air beather, similar to a whale. If raised at an early age, fed well, they will play with you in the water. My friend in Costa Rica has a pet dolphin. They swim together. Of course it's not like having a dog or cat, or horse, etc. but they can show love and be faithful to you especially if a shark came towards you.

Fish aren't pets, they are food.

in some ways fish are good pets, since they dont interact with you, there is not much emotional involvement,so when they die, there is a sadness, but it gets flushed away with the fish.unlike dogs or cats and birds, (especially if thay talk and have free reign of the house) ,and are part of the family.

Fish were our last resort on what to have that wouldn't be considered a pet.
Got told fish are pets and a ten gallon aquarium isn't allowed without a deposit, which is way beyond the worth of a few little fish.
I guess that means nothing living... maybe I will be charged for the lady bugs, flies and such too that find their way in.

you need to pay a deposit on an aquarium ? thats crazy, fish don't cause wear and tear on the house, it's not like taking a boarder. is it legal ?

Is it legal? I don't know...
I hadn't questioned it....

How sad you can't even have an aquarium because they are afraid it might break and cause damage. OH brother. They are a pain to clean though and to take care of. we flushed a few goldfish down the toilet. Dog's and cats are the only way to go. When they start charging for flies is when they need a good ass licking, excuse my french, lol. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

They are indeed, if..
you keep them in a container and feed them
and have no plans to eat them when they are a suitable size/age.

As a previous owner of a LARGE complicated! saltwater fish aquarium,
they are pets!
They are competely (poor things) dependent upon
the keeper's care, and they are not being raised for food.

(They are ALSO -in my opinion- a pain in the butt[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].)
Which ^ definitely qualifies them as pets. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I don't think anything can truly pet a pet unless you name it. I think fish are more of a hobby.

Well, everyone I know who has an aquarium for their children
names each one of their fish... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ...or the children do, anyway...
Yup - pets. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
My favorite name for a fish so far? "Spot". [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Oh! And their Beta is named 'Ali'. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I was in favor of "Smokin' Joe", myself...

Ja'aj, do they have a goldfish named Golda Meir? Or an angelfish named Angie? Or a catfish named Kitty?

Woops I accidentally hit the bold print, well at least I know it works. I remember every dentist ofice I was in always had fish tanks, but I hardly ever see them anymore. That was the only good part of the dentist watching the fish. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It was fishy, my Uncle who was a dentist back east had a big one in the wall. They were fun to watch.

I guess they figure you'll be distracted from thinking about the dentist chair.

Jaaj, I know you were talking about your friends' fish; that's why I said they. I don't presently have any fish either, except usually on Fridays.
