Starting a thread to give you a
"Totally Useless Fact Of The Day"
(might come in handy playing Trivial Pursuit!) LOL
Here is today's useless fact:

In the blockbuster hit, E.T., the Extra Terrestrial (1982), Harrison
Ford was cast as the school principal, but his only scene was cut.
Director Steven Spielberg decided his presence in the film would be
too distracting. Ford's wife Melissa Mathison wrote E.T.'s screenplay.

I'm trying to think of another useless fact, but I can't come up with anything!
Okay, here's one: The song title, Mr. Mojo Risin", by the Doors, is an anagram of Jim Morrison's name.

In India it is perfectly proper for men to wear pajamas in public.
Pajamas are accepted as standard daytime wearing apparel.

But NOT in the United States, you got that, guys!?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
(By the way, cool bit of intormation Tater! Thanks!)

When the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, Jimmy Page was left to honor theband's commitments, performing as The New Yardbirds. The groupeventually evolved into Led Zeppelin.

See! ... You guys know some useless facts! LOL
Great additions! I did not know all of that!
Hey, who has that picture of the kitten being held up at gun point?
I lost it. Could have used it here:
The robbery phrase "Hands Up" originated in British Columbia. Bill
Miner, an American known as the Gentleman Bandit, is said to have
first used the phrase while robbing a Canadian Pacific Railways
train in Mission Junction, British Columbia in 1904.
Edit:
And thanks to Breezey's quick fingers ... here's a hold up:

They had been over-mixing the soap formula causing excess air bubbles that made it float.
Customers wrote and told how much they loved that it floated, and it has floated ever since.

Australia is home to the koala bear, the platypus,
and the kangaroo, but not one active volcano or glacier.
It is the only continent that lacks either one.

What is the difference between a wharf and a pier you ask?
A pier runs perpendicular to the shoreline,
while a wharf runs parallel to the shoreline .

Muppets creator Jim Henson first created Kermit in 1955 -- as a lizard.
He was made from Henson's mother's coat and two halfs of a Ping-Pong ball
(no flipper feet or eleven-point collar). He didn't become a frog until 1968.

The combination "ough" can be pronounced in nine different ways.
The following sentence contains them all:

through the streets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough,
he coughed and hiccoughed."

April 23rd ... (that's today) ...[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] World-famous playwright William Shakespeare was born on this day in 1564.
He also died on this day in 1616. (Weird, isn't it ???)
Many of his more famous plays, such as Hamlet, MacBeth, and Romeo & Juliet,
are highly revered as exemplary pieces of theatre, and are still read
and performed with relish today.Oh yeah ... one more thing ...
Even though it is widely attributed to him Shakespeare never actually used the word "gadzooks".[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

unless there's a man on the hood of the car,
with a shot gun which is used to shoot off rounds of ammunition
to alert oncoming drivers that there is a women at the wheel.

The word 'pound' is abbreviated 'lb.' after the constellation 'libra'
because it means 'pound' in Latin, and also 'scales'.
The abbreviation for the British Pound Sterling comes from
the same source: it is an 'L' for Libra/Lb. with a stroke through it to indicate abbreviation.
Same goes for the Italian lira, which uses the same abbreviation ('lira' coming from 'libra').
So British currency (before it went metric) was always quoted as "pounds/shillings/pence",
abbreviated "L/s/d" (libra/solidus/denarius).

Jack, I always wondered what the difference was between a wharf and a pier. What about a dock?

The word 'byte' is a contraction of 'by eight.'.

A rarity in birds, geese are among the very few in which the family stays together
at the end of the breeding season. Parents and the young raised during the
summer establish strong family bonds and do not break up for about a year.
In the fall, geese migrate in flocks that contain other family units,
and each family stays together on the wintering grounds.
