Starting a thread to give you a
"Totally Useless Fact Of The Day"
(might come in handy playing Trivial Pursuit!) LOL
Here is today's useless fact:

In the blockbuster hit, E.T., the Extra Terrestrial (1982), Harrison
Ford was cast as the school principal, but his only scene was cut.
Director Steven Spielberg decided his presence in the film would be
too distracting. Ford's wife Melissa Mathison wrote E.T.'s screenplay.

Okay, here's one: The song title, Mr. Mojo Risin", by the Doors, is an anagram of Jim Morrison's name.

Great additions! I did not know all of that!
Hey, who has that picture of the kitten being held up at gun point?
I lost it. Could have used it here:
The robbery phrase "Hands Up" originated in British Columbia. Bill
Miner, an American known as the Gentleman Bandit, is said to have
first used the phrase while robbing a Canadian Pacific Railways
train in Mission Junction, British Columbia in 1904.
Edit:
And thanks to Breezey's quick fingers ... here's a hold up:

A racehorse averages a weight loss of between 15 and 25 pounds during a race.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
On September 13, 1913, the famous Lincoln Highway,
the first paved transamerican highway,
was completed from New York to San Francisco.
Prior to it being built, there were almost no good roads to speak of in the
United States. The relatively few miles of improved road were only around
towns and cities. A road was "improved" if it was graded; travelers were
lucky to have gravel or brick. Most roads, though, were dirt. The Lincoln
Highway was the first major roadway constructed with the automobile in
mind. Later in 1928, thousands of Boy Scouts fanned out along the highway.
At an average of about one per mile, they installed small concrete markers
with a small bust of Lincoln and the inscription,
"This highway dedicated to Abraham Lincoln."

The term "dog days" has nothing to do with dogs. It dates back to
Roman times, when it was believed that Sirius, the Dog Star, added its
heat to that of the sun from July 3 to August 11, creating
exceptionally high temperatures. The Romans called the period dies
caniculares, or "days of the dog." [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

As early as 1822, the postmaster in Washington, D.C. was worried by the amount
of extra mail at Christmas time. His preferred solution to the problem was to limit
by law the number of cards a person could send. Even though commercial cards
were not available at that time, people were already sending so many home-made
cards that sixteen extra postmen had to be hired in the city.

One charming St. Valentine's Day tradition from long ago

During the 1950s, the average budget for a Three Stooges' film was about $16,000. This included the salaries of the three stars. In the late 1990s, with the resurgence of interest in Moe, Larry, and Curly, Columbia Pictures easily earned more than that with just one TV showing of the same film in only one major U.S. city.

    Snail facts:

They scrape up their food by moving back and forth on an edible surface. You can picture this when you recall seeing a snail attached to a leaf. Later you see the leaf is full of holes.

Snails do not have segmented bodies,
    like most all land animals.

They are believed to be related to the annelids.
Annelids are animals that do have segmented bodies.

They are not male or female - they are hermaphrodites.
They can produce both sperm and eggs.

The snail has no sense of hearing, they use their sense of smell and feeling to maneuver about the earth.
