Starting a thread to give you a
"Totally Useless Fact Of The Day"
(might come in handy playing Trivial Pursuit!) LOL
Here is today's useless fact:

In the blockbuster hit, E.T., the Extra Terrestrial (1982), Harrison
Ford was cast as the school principal, but his only scene was cut.
Director Steven Spielberg decided his presence in the film would be
too distracting. Ford's wife Melissa Mathison wrote E.T.'s screenplay.

Okay, here's one: The song title, Mr. Mojo Risin", by the Doors, is an anagram of Jim Morrison's name.

Pajamas are accepted as standard daytime wearing apparel.

But NOT in the United States, you got that, guys!?

Great additions! I did not know all of that!
Hey, who has that picture of the kitten being held up at gun point?
I lost it. Could have used it here:
The robbery phrase "Hands Up" originated in British Columbia. Bill
Miner, an American known as the Gentleman Bandit, is said to have
first used the phrase while robbing a Canadian Pacific Railways
train in Mission Junction, British Columbia in 1904.
Edit:
And thanks to Breezey's quick fingers ... here's a hold up:

Today in 1900, the train engineer who would come to be immortalized in song,
John "Casey"Jones, died in a train wreck in Mississippi.
He stayed at his post to try to keep his passengers safe,
and indeed he was the only one killed in the accident.
As a result of his dedication, he became an American folk hero.

John Hanson -- not George Washington -- was the first president of the U.S.
When the Congress met in 1781, the U.S. was governed by the Articles of
Confederation, which were adopted in 1777 and ratified by the states in 1781.
At that meeting, Congress elected John Hanson its "President of the U.S. in
Congress assembled." George Washington became the first president of the
U.S. under the U.S. Constitution in 1789.

In Echallens, Switzerland in 1998, a 105-year-old Swiss teacher
was ordered to attend elementary school thanks to a computer

list of local residents had only the last two digits of his birth date.
So the man, along with sixty-five 5 year-olds in the town,
received a letter ordering him to start school. The matter was
eventually taken care of and the computer system was changed.

Lead poisoning has been blamed for the fall of the Roman Empire.
Women became infertile from drinking from wine vessels whose
lead had dissolved in the wine, and the Roman upper classes died
out within a couple of centuries. The Romans used lead as a
sweetening agent and also as a cure for diarrhea. It all added up
to a massive self-poisoning of the population. ((wow!))

Fact #1 It suffers from shrinkage. Not counting its antenna, the iron tower is about 984 feet tall.

Fact #2 The paint is wet. Or at least some of it is. Twenty-five workers began brushwork in March on a top-to-bottom repainting job that's expected to take 18 months.
When done, they will have applied 60 tons of paint in three shades of brown
(darkest at the bottom, lightest at the top).
