It is very pretty, but I couldn't say what it is. It slightly resembles something in the rhododendron family, but I doubt that's native to OZ.

Hi, Rox! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Yup! Me too. Cherry blossoms.
Especially given the smooth dark bark.
If the blossoms sparkle it could be a plum... ?
What color do the leaves turn?

Re: This grows in my garden...
Hi, Rox,
Very possibly; this is a pic of peach blossoms that I asked Google for;
they look very similar - but not the bark.
Heck if I know.... perhaps you can ask a plant nursery person?
It's gorgeous !, whatever it is.

Re: This grows in my garden...
I wonder if it might be a crape myrtle. How big does it get? Does it grow like a bush?

Tater,
I dunno, we had crepe Myrtle in California
(they are sooo pretty! I loved them!) and
the flower petals are "crinkled".

Re: This grows in my garden...
all the pics are close, but always not quite the same, also it's not an ornamental plum ,they have redish purply leafs .
jaaj, good idea, but finding a garden shop with some one who knows will be the trick !! these days they just sell the stuff without necessarily knowing anything about it ,i will try just the same .

Re: This grows in my garden...
Rox,
Yeah! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I have noticed that here, too.
However, I have a nursery I have relied on on YEARS..
and they do know a lot. When I need to know something
I drag it to them. If I'm just buying bedding plants - I go
where the prices are best. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Well, "not ornamental" means your little mystery might bear
fruit one day...
that will be a clue. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
