I think it means a man is "Lord of all he surveys" at home.
He is safe there once the door is closed and the decsions
made are his own -
no matter who he answers to in the "outside world".

It's okay with me -
So long as he cleans his own palace and changes
the sheets on his own throne.

My mom married an idiot and he told her his home was his castle. She informed him his castle had crumbled. lol

Many liked my mom. She went through a lot in life and I think that's why she was the way she was with men and their stupidity.

i don't mind the man being the king of the castle, so long as he doesn't think the rest of the family are his serfs . sarcastic

I have no problem with that at all.
I agree with Rox.
As long as the same holds true for the woman, children, pets, etc.
