Have you ever owned your own home?
If so, what were you looking for in a home? Was it the layout, the yard, garage space, how updated it was, etc..?

Re: Have you ever owned your own home?
I "owned" a condo for a couple of years; does that count?

A condo? I always wondered how that worked... you don't really own the building or land? It counts. What were you looking for as reasons you would or wouldn't buy it?

Re: Have you ever owned your own home?
It was very reasonably priced, which was probably the biggest factor. Also, basically, you own the inside of the condo, and it's contents, such as appliances, water heater, etc., but not the exterior, so maintenance requirements were at a minimum, since you didn't have to worry about replacing the roof, or siding, or the sidewalk, or anything like that.
It was also very conveniently located outside of the city center, but still close enough for access to shopping, libraries, museums and other cultural amenities, but also close to parks and natural and scenic areas.

So, it suited you for what you wanted and needed. Who would pay for electrical or water problems? And plumbing?

Re: Have you ever owned your own home?
We had our house built in an estate ,south of Adelaide, at the time we could see hills and the sea in the distance, with grape vines and almond groves betwen.BEAUTIFUL.then the next door neighbours built a whoping great ugly shed and the view was replaced with a huge wall of corrugated iron. the front view was still nice, but as the area built up more of that disappeared to. OMG !! my son was 5 yrs when we moved in, he's now 45 !!we lived there 11 years.

Re: Have you ever owned your own home?
Roxanna, you just gave me a reminder about neighbors.. even if they may not live RIGHT next door.
Eleven years is a long time, at least to me. The longest I have been in one house was the one we just moved out of.. ten years.
