Good Neighbours

Good Neighbours
Good Neighbours
Good neighbours are kind.
Most of the time you would hardly know they are there.
The passing smile, the friendly wave.
The helpful lift when they see you waiting at the Bus Stop
(especially when its raining!)
Borrowing something handy
A thank you gift
Putting the world to rights
On that balmy Summer day.
Spreading the "news"
(but in a nice way).
Cutting the grass,
Digging holes
Planting new trees
Clearing the leaves,
Cleaning the path
Together.
Synchronised, all in step.
Marching forward to the beat of the village heart,
The Jungle drums
Vectored, unified.
Sharing a common purpose
In parallel lives.
"Thats just what I thought".
"I couldn't agree more".
"I couldn't have put it better myself".
Common views,
Common goals,
Common hopes,
Common aspirations.
Sharing in each-others lives.
The local wedding:
"Known her for years"
"Lovely girl"
"Don't they make a good couple".
Festooned in flowers of joy.
The local funeral:
"Known her for years"
"Lovely woman"
I'll miss her!
"Never had a bad word to say about anyone".
Wreathed in sadness.
Tradgedy shared:
Hugs for everyone.
Moved to tears in the street.
Empathy.
Prayers.
Displays of public sorrow.
Celebrations:
Birthdays,
Anniverserys.
Very special days all shared together.
Days made special by love
Rememberance Sunday.
Harvest
(and the harvest lunch)!
The auction
Christmas.
The Church service
Drinks with village friends.
New Year.
And the cycle starts again.
Enriched.

Re: Good Neighbours
Well, I have a couple of really nice neighbors and one is more of a friend.
And then we have the neighbors that inspired a neighborhood watch and know the police really well.....
The rest... celebrations, harvest, etc... nah... that's too much! lol

Re: Good Neighbours
The harvest lunch in particular is a village social event. There are a few folks who live near who are particularly bright sparks who enjoy an intellectual sparing match, its all done in a very fun friendly way and much enjoyed by everyone.
Its a way of focusing on the positive aspects of life which more than makes up for the local glitches we all seem to experience from time to time. The ladies always do a cracking job with the food showing their considerable prowess on the culinary side, its a team effort. The auction of the harvest donations contributes to local charities.
Im glad you are well supported nearby, it makes all the difference. I'm glad to say my children are both particularly lucky in that respect, although their urban environments are very different to ours. Most here move at a slower pace than society in general, most think along the same lines, most enjoy similar interests and values.
I dont know if its the same where you live but to some extent we all live in eachothers pockets. It isn't just that folks know whats going on in detail, and the history. This is a place where some families have lived for generations. They know all about the parents, and even the grandparents. Thats what I mean by "jungle drums" although these days its more jungle emails.

Re: Good Neighbours
Neighbours... they are a bit like gardens.. You will find many beautiful flowers, but the best of gardens still have a few weeds. (-:
