Maybe that song was stuck in my head because of all the water and "crap" I had to clean out of my basement today. It wasn't a fun thing! lol

Do you know the history behind that song?
Once upon a time, the company that owned the coal mines also built the town around it. Anybody who worked in the mines had to rent a home from the same company he worked for at exorbitant rates, because there was nothing else available; the company also owned all the land for miles around. If you needed boots or clothing, you had no choice but to go to the company store. If you needed groceries, you went to the company store. Often, the cost of goods purchased over the course of the week were as much or more than your salary; hence, you owed your soul to the company store. That's how unions got their start.
