The baseball smiley is one of the emoticons loaded on here. Wanna talk about baseball? Do you realize that the season starts in less than a month?

I knew baseball would be coming up... do you believe me? lol

Have you ever been to a baseball game? (I haven't)

I've been to many baseball games, from little league to major leagues. Would you believe that when I was 12, I used to take my 7 year old brother to Phillies games? The stadium was over 20 miles away, and we had to take a trackless trolley (basically an electric bus that runs on overhead wires), an el (elevated rail line), and a subway to get there. Children under 14 could get general admission tickets for 50 cents each if they were accompanied by an adult. Since we weren't, we'd walk up to somebody in line with a dollar in our hand and ask them if they could buy 2 tickets for us. Would you believe nobody ever turned us down, and we never had any major problems going to, from, or at the games? And this was going through some of the toughest neighborhoods in a city with one of the worst crime rates in the country! How many parents do you think would let their kids do that today?

Family members here have been to Timber Rattlers, but I have never been to a baseball game...hard to believe, huh? Maybe that should be a priority this year?

Might not be a bad idea. Do you like the game? Minor league games can be highly entertaining, even if you're not all that interested in baseball.

Would you believe I loved playing baseball as a kid, but school ruined that by forcing us to play?

How did they force you to play? Is that even legal?

Ever hear of gym class?

Did you ever hear of dodgeball? Were we forced to play it? I'm not sure if we were, or if we just all played because it was fun.

Did you like how hard some threw the ball for dodge ball?

I don't recall having gym class outside, except possibly on extremely rare occasions. I was a lot more afraid of getting hit by a baseball than a dodgeball; weren't you?

Would you believe I was the pitcher when we played baseball at home? And would you believe I got hit in the head quite often? (you keep those sarcastic remarks to yourself!lol)

Yes, I have several, but they all seem to be an hour fast! Did somebody sneak into my house and change all the clocks? Why on earth would they do that?

Do you wish to forget about setting clocks ahead or back an hour? Do you think it should be something done away with? Do we REALLY get any extra time?!

Don't they say it has something to do with giving farmers an extra hour to get their crops to market before dark? Did it make sense before the prevalence of electric light and trucks and automobiles with headlights?

Do you really think the farmers couldn't get up earlier or do something earlier, without changing time?

Don't farmers generally work from sunrise to sunset (and then some) regardless?

So, are you agreeing that the farmers aren't really the reason for that ridiculous time change?

Well.. Hello everyone. I am back lol.
I love daylight savings. It will end here soon and we will not be able to spend that extra hour in the garden. Farmers never stop working. Even in their sleep they are dreaming of the next days jobs.
When do you guys have daylight savings?

Daylight savings isn't anything! lol I don't see the point when I can get up earlier or not... lol

Yes.. I have heard of a groundhog.. Do you know the move Groundhog Day? That is the first time I had ever heard of one.. lol

Groundhog Day (the event, not the movie) got it's start in my home state, Pennsylvania, in a town called Punxsutawney. Sadly, the groundhog's prediction turns out to be correct less than half the time!

I've never seen Punxsutawney abbreviated, but I imagine people who live there may very well shorten it when writing their return address on an envelope. We do, however, usually abbreviate Pennsylvania as PA. ( or formerly Penna)

The name of the groundhog, by the way, is Punxsutawney Phil.
