Re: do you like indigenous art ?
Timeless Land II (2002) by Bronwyn Bancroft. ‘Since I was a young girl I wanted to do and make art,’ says Bronwyn Bancroft, an artist and designer of international acclaim. A descendant of the Bandjslung people, Bancroft grew up in the small country town in New South Wales. She specializes in unique paintings, hand printed fabrics and illustrations for children’s books. An advocate for indigenous rights she has been especially involved in education which she firmly believes ‘is imperative to our development and confidence’.

Rox,
That's really NEAT!
Here we have "indiginous" art - and I really LOVE some of it - sand paintings, pottery, etc. Also, of couse , jewelry -.
HOWEVER...
Most of it - while authentic - in the sense that native Americans make it - it is FAR from the original art, pottery, etc.
THAT kind of genuine art - is in art! galleries and museums.
I can't afford the price of admission (to the museum)
- I certainly can't afford to OWN any of it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It is sooo lovely...
Here the sale of Dream Catchers, etc. is tongue-in-cheek -
the makers are Native Tribes - just not LOCAL Indian tribes...
that way they aren't selling THEIR heritage. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It is a genuine imitation [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] of the tribal Dream Catchers -
to whom Dream Catchers are sacred.
AND although the Hopi have opened their "ceremonies" to the
white-eyes (tourists) it is ONLY ... during the day.
The night ceremony is forbidden to all but the Hopi.
As it should be!
It is a RELIGIOUS CEREMONY! and private because
it is SACRED to the Hopi.

These are examples of Museum pieces (in museums [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] of Native American Art.
Similar pieces of pottery and the jewelry are available in ART Galleries.
OR NOT... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I'll see what I can do -one at a time UPLOADING them. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Dammit.
EDIT:
one-at-a-time... grrr! uplading! each pic. :
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I hope! they post this time.
They are breathtakingly, astonishingly lovely.
You should SEE them in "person". Amazing.
The imitative pieces are also very lovely -
and sell in the tourist-attractions/traps -
at a much! more reasonable price .
The genuineness (and 'quality') is indicative by price. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Which ... is just as well, I have CATS and kids here -
and a heart-attack is not! welcome.

Re: do you like indigenous art ?
those paintings are thousands of years old breezey, they had some amazing talent even then .
i'm not sure these would come under 'indigenous art ' , omg, i keep getting more and more into things, now i'll have to check into that !! i think the are simply called cave paintings.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
these two are from Chauvet, also in france and have been dated at 30,000 years.

Where is that silly rabbit, anyway?
How about Rembrandt? I saw the one in St. Louis art museum...there is a guard standing right next to it, too. This is his self portrait as a young man.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
And I've always like the Spanish painter, Diego Velazquez but have never seen his works in person. Oops, something is wrong, the host an image is screwy. OK, I've got it.....

I like looking at some art,as paintings and drawings are something i can't do. Oh yes i used to be real good at drawing a good cold mug of draft beer years ago ,and when i draw a good hot bath water it is so relaxing.

Re: do you like indigenous art ?
Hi gang Cool stuff! I like it. Trying to think of the name of a famous painting that I found very impressive ... be back in a bit .......
Yes, the threat was real ... I'm baaaaack!
I guess this wouldn't be classfied as "indigenous art" but it certainly was impressive (to me). I was fortunate enough to actually see this work of art "in person" as it were ... back in 1981. It's a large work of art (the figures are life-size). I was overwhelmed by the subject matter. It's almost like you're standing there, witnessing the event. Truly, awe-inspiring stuff! (I know, it's morbid ... but it really captivates your attention.)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
"The Execution of Lady Jane Grey"
Lady Jane Grey was Queen of England for just 9 days until she was driven from the throne and sent to the Tower of London to be executed. Jane became queen after the death of her cousin, Edward VI in 1553. As a Protestant, Jane was crowned queen in a bid to shore up Protestantism and keep Catholic influence at bay. The plan didn't work. Jane's claim to the crown was much weaker than Edward VI's half sister Mary. Mary, a Catholic, had popular support and soon replaced Jane as queen. Lady Jane Grey was executed at Tower Green on 12 February 1554. She was just 16 years old. In this painting, she is guided towards the execution block by Sir John Brydges, Lieutenant of the Tower. The straw on which the block rests was intended to soak up the victim's blood. The executioner stands impassive to the right and two ladies in attendance are shown grieving to the left. The painting was exhibited in Paris at the city's famous Salon in 1834, where it caused a sensation.

Re: do you like indigenous art ?
No problem Daisy. Glad you enjoyed having a look around. We were on a vacation trip and had a very limited time one afternoon, to TRY and see the National Gallery in London. That was impossible! I could have spent MONTHS there, and not seen everything I wanted to see. I would LOVE to go back! That painting is one that I have always remembered. The brutality of the event depicted really bothered me after seeing it. It certainly makes you stop and think about history. These things really happened! Makes you feel rather lucky to be living in modern times. I must have stood in front of that painting for quite some time ... trying to take it all in.
