should mining companies pay higher tax ?

our primeminister, kevin rud ,thinks so , a lot of people are against it. so who does the stuff underground actually belong to ? who should benefit the most ?

The stuff underground really doesn't belong to anyone, but someone always finds a way to possess it.
Who should benefit... should be everyone.. but most times, it's companies and government that benefit the most.

i had a great big answer,and it didn't post ..gr..my pc playing up...
the gist of it was : kev wants to increase mining tax in order to have more funds for community services. give something back to the community. i couldn't find the exact figures, but i saw on tv,roughly, give or take a few $$$ that in africa they pay about 18% tax, about 28% in canada and getting close to 40% in usa. he wants to bring it up to 40%.there are conditions ,and they don't pay the higher rate for some years ,or till they make big profits , the info is on the net .to much to write here.i think it's a great idea ,though some think it will drive mining away, and jobs will be lost.

breezey, i think it's better the government makes sure they get a fair share,hopefully it will benefit everybody in the long run,rather than one company ransaking the earth and taking the profits oversees.sure they provide jobs, but the enormous profits they make would easily support a fairer tax.
