Phone poll :: Comments
I chose land phone. lol
I really hate some of the annoying calls, but like keeping in touch with people.
Cell phones are one thing I truly detest and never take one with me.

Yeah, I knew you would say that, but they are nice to have in an emergency. You can use a cell phone at home, but you can't take a land line with you.
I had a cell phone just for emergencies. When I really needed it... it just kept "roaming" and wasn't able to connect to anything. Not such a wonder as it is bragged to be.
Most only cover small areas they will work in. Some cover bigger areas, but you would still need a different one for further away places.

That depends on the carrier. The cell phone I had, I rarely had problems with service, no matter where I was. I took a trip to Florida with it, and it worked the entire time, whether I was in Rural Virginia, North or South Carolina, Georgia, or anywhere in Florida.
I should have listed C.B.s as an option! lol
Sure didn't cost no $40 monthly and I talked to a lot of interesting people!
Also good for emergencies! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Before I forget... cell phone companies annoy people by sending messages to their cell phones... ads! I hate that!
I had a pay as you go phone. While it cost 25 cents a minute, I didn't use it that much or talk very long, so it rarely ended up costing me more than $10 or $15 a month, and that covered all my calls, as I didn't have a land line. Plus, that 25 cents a minute was good nationwide, so there were no long distance charges.

Didn't you have to pay a monthly fee, even if you didn't use the phone... just to keep it?
Also... people tend to think they can call you any time, anywhere. I don't want to talk on the phone while I am driving, shopping, gone to the park, etc...
I really just dislike all a cellphone seems to stand for now. Maybe because of how many are on them instead of getting through a day without one. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
No, there was no monthly fee. You just had to buy your minutes ahead of time, but you could use your debit card to purchase them over the cell phone itself whenever you needed to. If you don't want to take a call at any particular moment, you have the option not to answer it (they have caller ID so you can see who's calling), or you can turn the ringer off or even turn the phone itself off.
Cell phone plans vary widely, so it really pays to shop around for a carrier and a plan that fits your needs and usage.

I would say I didn't have a problem at least 98% of the time. Again, reliability and coverage depends primarily on the carrier.
I used Cingular, which merged with AT&T, but I believe the same plan is still available.
