Abuse, divorce, etc...

Are all the bad things really happening more than many years ago or are they just finally more acceptable to talk about?
Divorce use to be a dirty word... my family was not acceptable because my mom was a divorced woman.
Abuse was more or less swept under the rug and not to be discussed. It happened and that was the end of it.
Rape was the girl's fault and a shameful thing to report.


Now... these things are talked about more freely and viewed differently. Does that play a part in how statics show an increase in these things?

you are so right breezey, a man had a right to beat his wife within an inch of her life, it was considered a private matter.child abuse was hidden, the child had no one to go to, as nobody believed the child, and nobody knew how to handle it anyway, for eons it has been pedophile heaven, nothing to stop them.this is out in the open now and there is help available for the victims,it's one aspect of a more innocent age that was not at all innocent for much to many.even in the 70's we had a hard struggle to get a womens shelter,the police were against us, and so was the media and a lot of the public.perseverance won out and now they have specially trained police to deal with it and there is support for the victims.some things are better now ,and not every body was abused ,but i think sometimes we tend to idealise the past.

Idealize the past says it really well. People say things were better and didn't happen as much... I think it truly happened as much, maybe even more because it was all kept quiet and there weren't any consequences for doing wrongful things.

Not everyone had a bad childhood or relationship, but it sure makes you wonder how many there really were that had problems that weren't ever talked about.
Statistics show a rise... or just that NOW statistics show?

hard to say with statistics ,breezey. our world definately is more violent, but i don't know if this spills into peoples private lives.
one thing that was more inocent in the past, the whole neighbourhood used to sleep on the front lawn on a hot night,we used to leave front doors unlocked,can you imagine doing that now ?
in a nut shell, i guess some things have improved and others totally out of control.

Roxanna, many think I am nuts, but we never lock our doors.
Sometimes, we put up tents in the back yard and sleep in them. lol
I guess part of me feels that if we quit doing things or living in fear of everything.. are we really living anyway?
Many people fear so many things that they're even afraid to leave their homes. I just don't want to get like that.
I want my children to understand the bad in the world, but not to let it rule their lives and take away all the fun and good times.
