What was your childhood like?

Did you have a fun childhood? Or were you a lonely child that just couldn't wait to be an adult... only to find that adulthood wasn't as much fun as you thought it might be?

Let me put it this way: Childhood isn't much fun when you're never really sure if you're going to live long enough to become an adult!

Good times, bad times, learned adults can be such awful people and liars, but that others can be wonderful.... had two brothers to keep me aggravated and busy with all kinds of innovative ways to have fun. Enjoyed my time in the woods and being outside in nature.
Loved to ride horses and ponies....learned also to keep myself occupied while it seemed the rest of the people were just...busy.
We had goats and I loved those critters. I miss that part of life...but not some lessons learned.

Breezey we had goats and they were a menace.. lol. Stella was always escaping and getting into my garden.

I grew up in a very strict household amongst 7 sisters and 1 brother. I was really quite a lonely child although I had so many siblings. My saving grace was my one true friend.. my pet dog, Peppy. I told him many things and I swear he understood.. the look in his eyes said it all. He heard me cry many times from being belted by my father. He saw the bruises and helped me through those hard times. We ran away together down the valley behind our house many times. I learned a lot from those years. That I would never marry a man like my Dad. That I wanted my children to have a Dad that treated them like all children should be treated. With love, kindness and understanding. I don't often think about those days much now. It took me a long time to get over the abuse and even now, as I write this, a tear escapes from some dark hidden corner. I have learned to be happy... everyday of my life. To make up for the years that I was so unhappy.... My children are very lucky. They have a wonderful dad.. and had a wonderful childhood.
I believe that good can come from bad experiences.... Perhaps it all comes down to your perspective on life?

Have you heard people say that if a child was abused, that child will most likely abuse his/her children too? I often wondered why that is thought to be true? I think you are right...perspective...how we choose to do things.. I believe we all grow up and can change things or follow what was.

I was going to ask Tater what he meant, but wasn't sure I should.

I have heard that said Breezey.. but I don't believe one size fits all. I could have turned out to be just like my Dad.. but I CHOSE not to. It is all about choice. Deciding to be what you yourself needed in a parent. I think you have to be strong in your convictions of what you feel is the right or wrong way to treat others.

Good points and really... we all have the option to do differently and to take responsibility for how we want to be.

Responsibility.. perhaps something that is taken too lightly these days?
