I had one who did and showed a lot of kindness and compassion.
And today... I read about another teacher who cared and did something to help students..

None of mine really stood out as extraordinary, but I don't recall any of them being particularly bad either. Maybe that's one advantage of going to a catholic school for both elementary and high school; since the pay scale wasn't that great, they obviously weren't there just for the money.

Sure did, several in fact. One in particular taught Science and put so much effort in to make everything interesting. It sparked something within which is why I still love science, and probably why I got 98% in the exam.

There are certain subjects I just cant resist. Science, astronomy, philosophy, archaeology and many more. Science has been a good grounding in my engineering works and continues to attract my attention from time to time.

Science never really got my attention. Not sure if that's because of how it was presented or if other things just got my attention more... seems like nature and gardening and such always had more of a grip on me. smile2

Does anyone think teachers mainly just do what's required and forget the "above and beyond" part?

Sadly these days some have to spend their time avoiding being stabbed! Its just happened again over here. The police are looking for a 15year old pupil on an attempted murder charge.

Depending on how you look at it... maybe it's going above and beyond just to BE a teacher now.

Maybe due to the fact laws have changed how people can discipline and maybe also because of how little kids have to do now... chores and such are not expected from many.
Oh oh... a whole new topic here!

Chores? Like digging holes in the garden, or cooking fish?

If that's what it takes. Too many families no longer live a lifestyle that kept children busy helping with work... farm kids had more to do..
Now, most have jobs away from home and kids don't have a lot to do.

Nature: biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, geology...

Gardening: agronomy, agriculture, soil science...
