Full Speed Ahead
Heres one which has been around for a while, something to do with sailing through life perhaps?
Full Speed Ahead.
Well. Here I am on the bridge of my ship,
And a fine vessel she is too.
Solid, reliable, robust, secure.
Years to build from origami plans.
Made from the roots of mountains
Smelted in Hera's imortal flame.
Strong from the labour of others.
A self contained environment.
Enclosed.
Opulant with every luxury,
Surrounded by every modern comfort.
Warm against the icy seas below.
Safe from the frosty blast outside.
Contained, secure, safe, complete.
Floodlit from within.
Insulated from the cold events of life.
Steered by white stars in a clear dark moonless sky.
"Hard a starboard" and off we go.
Full speed ahead,
To oportunities new.
A prosperous future.
Cutting through opposing waves far below.
Engines thumping.
Larger than life.
Running to a tight schedule.
In a hurry.
Efficient.
No time to enjoy the view.
No time to talk.
No time to relax.
No time to think.
No continuity.
No respect, no fear, no time.
What a ship!
What a name.
Reflecting my importance.
Untouchable, unstopable, indestructable, as I steam ahead through life.
What?
The name of my ship of life?
"TITANIC"

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Titanic... it had everything going for it.. it was amazing!
And yet... it didn't make the grade... it wasn't able to withstand
elements of hard times...
You just never know which ships will keep afloat.. they aren't always
what they seem.

I'd rather a bus be late than early. When they get to a bus stop ahead of schedule, the local buses here in Philly don't bother waiting around.

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Looking at our schedules here ours would have to travel faster than the speed of light to be early. Engage slipstream. Ahead, warp factor 8!

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Our buses almost always run late, unless you are just on time. Then, there is a good chance you missed the bus.

Yes, I tried to figure out why that notice had this post in it since nothing was newly posted. lol
Evidently it did some good because here we are.
And... we know the daily update is at least working! lol

The system here allows geriatrics like me to travel free (if we can remember where we're going) after 9:30am. No problem, I'm never up that early (holidays excepted!). Then we have the rest of the day to figure out where we live, and how to get home.

Heck, you can travel free even if you don't remember where you're going, and that might just make even more interesting!

Well Breezey, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who got the belated message; that way, at least if I'm in the twilight zone, I won't be alone there!

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Some of our more adventurous pensioners go on buss pass holidays all around the country. Now this does require a lot of planning as free travel in only on the short hop public service busses, and only in England. It isn't the quickest or most comfortable way, but is the cheapest (I much prefer an air conditioned luxury coach myself). If its a double decker root you get superb views by going upstairs, and they do travel the more rural scenic roots.

Re: Full Speed Ahead
They don't have A/C on the local buses there? They do here, although I can't say it always works well...

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Our service busses are very basic, run by a multitude of local companies. The seats are built to last and hardly comfortable. Few have seat belts but they rarely do more than 40mph anyway. When they are cleaned they seem to use a shovel. Some are equipped with ramps for the disabled, but others have steps. So if you're in a wheelchair you never know if you're going to be able to get on or not. They don't have a/c but do have heaters (two candle power). Some small sections of window open, but you're risking your life from the other passengers if you dare to try to open one. There's no provision for cases so we have to stand in the wheelchair space if we're going in to catch our holiday coach.
Fortunately they're much better since smoking was banned, at least you dont need to change you're cloths when you get off, just as long as you remember to tuck your trousers into your socks (I exaggerate, but you get the picture).
The long distance coatches are much more comfortable. It's mainly inter city National Express, but we also have Meggabus as well as the inter airport specialist carriers.

Our buses in Philly are so easy to use, even a 4 year old can figure it out!

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Well, that is a full size city bus, not a mini-bus or shuttle bus, and Philly is one of the biggest cities in the US. Also, it may look a little larger just because one of the only 2 passengers visible is 4 years old...

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Perhaps our buses are built for four year olds? Sometimes it seems like it's full of them, even if they do all have grey hair and zimmer frames!

Re: Full Speed Ahead
Keep in mind that the photo is taken with a wide angle lens, which makes the bus look wider than it is. I can't tell you how many times I've been whacked by backpacks, pocketbooks and the like while sitting in an aisle seat.
I know what you mean, though; sometimes it seems like the 4 year olds have better manners and are more well behaved than some of the adults!
