Plastic or paper? Empty Plastic or paper?

Do any stores still ask you which kind of bag you want?

Choke a fish/kill a tree?
No, now that you mention it.... they don't.

They rarely ask, but I speak up and ask for a paper bag.
Of course, they gladly comply and put a paper bag inside a plastic one, at which point I usually feel like it's not worth the trouble to try and explain that it kind of defeats the purpose. I don't want plastic bags, because plastic doesn't grow on trees! It is not a renewable resource.

That's a new one to me !
Here, I just kinda automatically say "Paper, please"
when "they" start packing up my purchases.

Yeah, I guess it's a little cheaper than double bagging with two paper bags. At least you can fit about three times as much in the paper bags, so it's still better than using three plastic bags, or six if they otherwise would use two plastic ones for heavier items.

I have all but given up trying to explain that you can grow another tree, most paper comes from tree farms so they are renewable and doesn't lead to more deforestation, and paper is biodegradable, while plastic is not.

I see... (that actually makes sense)
BUT... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
at least now the plastic is recylable....
and that isn't time-consuming or expensive... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Plastic is recyclable, but it takes a lot of energy, and creates more pollution than recycling paper.

I guess the best thing to do is use reusable cloth bags instead.

I had to ask since some places are banning plastic bags. Here, we don't even get asked. Mostly, paper bags are used unless it's for meat and frozen foods.

Good for them! Two other things I didn't even think to mention are:
1) animals who are hurt or even strangled by plastic bags

and 2) Have you ever noticed how much litter is comprised of plastic bags?

I think we've become too dependent on plastic and throw away plastic... bags, bottles, wrappers, etc..
I would much rather have glass or cardboard. Glass can be washed and used again. Cardboard is at least closer to paper.
I think recycling should mean reusable.. as is, not as will be. lol

Witch! lol
I guess I really meant... reusable should replace recyclable.
Why DID glass for milk get replaced with plastic? Same for soda bottles?
Price?

We've not had plastic bags supplied in supermarkets for some time now, once you get used to BYO bags it's good. They do have plastic bags that break down (can't for the moment think what it's called) for 10c if you need them. I keep a small calico bag rolled up in my hand bag at all times, and have a boot load of various bags for bigger shopping. I haven't noticed any prices drop, though they no longer need to factor in the price of the plastic bags ! Neutral

Is price really the thing when it costs to keep throwing away plastic and recycling? I have also noticed the difference in taste from plastic and glass. I like the glass better.
Does convenience seem like part of it?
Roxanna... lol Did you really expect a price change?

I want to petition for plastic to be done away with and glass brought back!
We have a small organic store here and they do not put their milk in plastic. You really can tell the difference!

I'll sign your petition [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] but the only thing
that really makes any impact is $$.
SO... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]... we're back to your petition ! Lean on the politicians
to pass a law outlawing the [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] plastic bags. Or something... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
