Can't remember.. have we ever had a rant section here?

Can't remember.. have we ever had a rant section here?
Well... either way... here is one now! lol
Rant...
Why do we say we shouldn't take people or things for granted, yet... in many ways, we all do?
Why do people just assume you'll know they care?! Shouldn't we put an effort into making sure they KNOW we care?
And here is this... everyone talks about equality and everyone being equal. When has that EVER been the case?

How are you feeling about those gas prices?
As a taxi driver, it sucks, because the cost of our gas comes out of the fares before they are split with the owner.
Do you feel like you were fattened up for the kill with the way prices kept going down first?
Not really, I just enjoyed paying less at the pump each time I went for those short couple of months, and hoped nobody quotable would mention Iran or Israel in the news...Have you noticed how it's leveled off a bit since Obama spoke last week?
What has leveled off? Prices are still going up. Ranging anywhere from $3.69 to $3.89 a gallon today.
Well, it was averaging in the $3.71 to $3.85 here last week, but It has at least stopped rising at least, and some stations have actually lowered their prices slightly this week. Last week the lowest I saw it was $3.71; this week some places brought it down to around $3.67.
Tater, here.. it went up all week. Area of where people live makes a big difference too. There are places it's $3.87 and up.
Why is that?
Why is that?
For some reason, I'm getting a double post here ... So, I'm just going to delete this copy and edit by typing over it ... do ... dee ... do ... dee ... do ... (there, that should do it) ... And now, we return you to the regularly scheduled thread about ranting ...

I thought we could just "rant"
anywhere and at any time we wanted.
... No? ...
Oh, I see ... you want a "general purpose" thread to gripe about various things ... OK ... Emily, say your line ...

What I do know is the prices do not reflect a hike in the
price of gas/oil to the vendors. This attack of pure D greed
is all the station owners'.

When some people seemed happy about prices going down, for a while, I made it clear they would go up... even more. It is ALWAYS the same. Those prices go down, but never to what they were before and then... they go up even higher and people don't seem to notice that so much. I have heard a lot of "reasons" for the ever higher prices and most of them just don't cut it.

They have pretty much leveled off here for the past 2 weeks; some places may go up a penny or 3 one day, but others go down a penny or 2, and it seems to even out. Some seem to go up slightly one day, and back down a couple of days later, or versa-vica.
I watch the price of gas closely, since I have to buy gas 5 or 6 days a week, in the cab business.
This week, approximately 20 cents more than the beginning of the week and still going!
Sounds to me like a handful of gas stations there are taking advantage of a relatively small market. Here, we have quite a few different gas stations and companies in a large metropolis, plus New Jersey right across the river, which has lower fuel taxes (so it's usually about 20 cents a gallon cheaper), which helps keep prices honest.
It's not a handful... it's every gas station in at least three cities that I track. Haven't checked others, but will.
Lmao!! I already use that. Just haven't checked prices a little more distance from us lately. lol
There are a lot of variables as far as gas prices are concerned. Newtown, PA is only about 5 miles from New Jersey, yet the gas prices in Newtown are about 50 cents higher per gallon, even though it's self serve in PA and in NJ they have to pump it for you, by law. Gas taxes are a lot lower in NJ, and they do not allow self-serve there. Newtown is a small town in an exclusive area, so the prices there are a lot higher than in Philly, even though it's only about 20 miles away.
Population of Newtown: 2248
Population of Philadelphia: 1,526,006
Population of Philadelphia Metro Area: 5,965,343
Population of Appleton: 78,086

Other variables include distance from refineries, distance from pipelines, and competition, or lack thereof, and demand.
Even if a specific region has a large supply of gas, if a limited number of corporations own a large percentage of the gas stations, fuel prices tend to be higher.
One thing I can't understand is the fuss over the proposed pipeline from Canada to Texas. This would have literally divided the U.S. in half. Why wouldn't it be more cost effective to build refineries in Canada, close to the source?
