Re: Has anyone tried healthier shampoos and contditioners?
I have been using a polytar shampoo for many years (keeps psoriasis under control) and conditioners I get from the health shop, there is quite a variety to choose from, and I've whittled it down to 2 or 3 that I like. They feel better and have a lighter, more subtle scent than the supermarket ones, cost a little more, but only need a small amount ,in the long run, good value.
ps I prefer to buy locally made rather than big companies.

Yes. I am 68 yrs old and have always had a head of very thick, wavy hair. It is gray now, which I really like, but it is thinning and getting that cottony, thin, fly-away texture. No shampoo or conditioner would tame it.
Then I remembered from years ago, Keratin shampoos and hair products work miracles. All natural Keratin, (look it up on the web) coats hair with health and restores the texture, body, thickness and shine of healthy hair.
It practically has to be bought online or a health food store or some beauty parlors. I order the shampoo online - MILL CREEK BOTANICALS . I have the conditioner, too, but I really don't need it. I also have a leave in Keratin conditioner from my local beauty shop. I like that one the best.
I will swear by this product and will not use anything else again.

I use a lot ! of "Aussie" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] shampoos and conditioners.
I looove ! their "Sprunch Spray" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
conditioner is -(tied for 1st place with Clairol's "Condition") the BEST!
Their "frizz-control" products WORK ! YAAAY!
(So do John Frieda's [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and I'm especially ! fond of "Frizz-Ease" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.])
Aussie products are among the best ! for any kind of hair.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
No matter what its texture ; curly/straight, coarse/fine,
dry/oily, yadda/yadda [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and all points in-between, "Aussie"
has a shampoo and a conditioner for it.
I have used "Aussie" since the mid-'70s and it just keeps getting better. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
When something of theirs is "improved" - it really IS improved.
I used to go into a panic when they changed/improved something but I've
learned that I can trust 'em not to screw it up. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I don't have to stop
using it because they ruined it with the improvement.
I really! appreciate that!
As with all shampoos etc. I need to switch now and again to revive
hair apparently bored (?) with the current products being used.
With Aussie a change isn't as frequently needed; my hair stays happy
with it longer than most. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
(Now... do you think they'll hire me? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.])

Breezey ,let me know how you go making your own, especially the conditioner.
I knew a lady in her late 70s who had been using velvet soap (I think your version is ivory) to wash her hair,(and body) and rinsing with vinegar, diluted with water. Her hair was thick and dark ,very little gray, she put it down to not using commercial products.

Well, that's even more than I knew! I quit using it because I wanted an actual all organic shampoo... natural ingredients and not a lot of added stuff that really doesn't need to be.

"Aussie" is the brand name - complete with goofy kangaroo. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
It's a vey good product, too.
Nope, I'm not employed by them and I really don't see why not! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Got any influence there, Roxanna? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Bree, keep us posted on the shampoo results, please ?
Why are you making your own?
Ja'aj, when you make your own, everything in it is what you KNOW and not a lot of added things that aren't even all that great for you or your hair.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] True, but I don't know what to use to get it clean, shiny and mangeable.(<--issue!)
I'm gonna let YOU do the field work and wait for your report. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Me, being the almost bald dad, am past worrying about this ,as i don't have enough hair left .Sneaky takes care of his own,and doesn't even hack up any hair balls.
