How come nobody ever says they Yahoo'ed something?
We often say we googled something when we were looking for information, but nobody ever seems to Yahoo anything, even though they are rival search engines. Should Yahoo stop trying to compete with Google?

I block out as much of Yahoo services as I possibly can. It sucks! That's why.

I dunno about anyone else... but Google gets it right.
No fuss; no muss... ask 'em a question and they provide answers.
(A LOT! of answers.) Ever try to to use "Bing"? Sheesh.
And I'm with Bree on this - I NEVER-EVER use yapoo
*gag* for anything! if I can avoid it.
By the time I realized what [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] they are...
I was already sold on their email.
(That's ! how I learned about "Answers".)
Which - in the beginning - was a GREAT! idea.
NOW... if they "insist" I switch to their "new"
(*blick!-pooey!*) email... I will be using a someone else's.
I stuck with yapoo because I LIKE! their email format
the best. If I gotta switch ... I will.
Just not to yapoo's "new" email.
And I AM NOT gonna "Yahoo!" anything [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
while Google is up and running.
I will struggle with "Bing" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] first. *yeck*
(They're bound to get better at it, right?)

I don't say either one. I say I web searched it. And even better, my very good Norton antiviral program gives me a Norton safe search right under the YAHOO one and I use it all the time. It codes everything I search for. Maybe I'll start saying I 'Nortoned it'. LOL

Gee, Sneaks [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"I web-searched it" takes much too long to say. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
'Sides... "GOOGLE knows everything!"
If it wasn't for Google, lots of us wouldn't know
ANYthing! except what we learned in school
(and what good is most of that?) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Once upon a time, I had my homepage set to Yahoo ... then, they irritated me with violation notices on Y Answers, did away with the 360 page, etc etc etc. Switched to Google and never looked back

Re: How come nobody ever says they Yahoo'ed something?
Great to see lots of interesting answers, on what was meant to be a light-hearted yet somewhat serious question that I asked out of curiosity. Once upon a time, Yahoo was a serious competitor with Google for one of the top 2 Web Search sites, but they seemed to have gotten lost somewhere along the way. Maybe because they concentrated too much on ad revenue and not enough on useful results?
One thing that kind of bothers me about Google though, is that while they used to have reasonable privacy policies, that particular advantage seems to have been weakened somewhat in recent years. As an example, If you want to see a picture of your house, enter your address on Google Maps, zoom in all the way...

I looked at my house on google and my older car is still setting in the drive. Just wonder when they will really get snooping and show the interior of it?

Re: How come nobody ever says they Yahoo'ed something?
Tater, I am thinking laws must allow Google to do that, or more people would be suing them. I was really upset when I found out people could just google houses and see so much! I am STILL upset about that! But... privacy has kind of gone out the window with internet anyway.

Re: How come nobody ever says they Yahoo'ed something?
Google maps and Google Earth only show my little village from above and you can only walk the highway. So the house where I lived could only show part of the roof and sidewalk under the trees and the apartment where I live now can only be seen as a little piece of the building up 2 blocks from the walk.
