Do round abouts really make traffic better and really do a lot of good or are they just round about ways of wasting money, time and gas?

I have never driven on one so I don't know. In theory they are supposed to work well, but I don't know just how efficient they are.

To get to my sister's house, I have to use three of them. I find them to be pains in the butt and not as safe as they are claimed to be.

Most of the traffic circles around here have been adapted with traffic lights. I believe they are more effective when traffic is on the lighter side, not a continuous flow.

Breezey, that roundabout must be in England; they are driving on the left!

Tater, you got good eyes, you're right. Have you ever been anywhere where you drive on the left side? I did once in Bermuda, it was fun, but we had rented motor scooters so it was pretty easy. When I was in Japan, my wife's girlfriend drove, they drive on the left, it is so weird to see her shifting her car with her left hand, I had plenty of 4 speeds, but everything was used by the right hand.

Tater, no traffic lights here. Actually, they took away traffic lights and put a round about there instead... for one. Nobody gives a damn who should go first or who is already going. Semis have a hell of a time with some of them. But.... way out in the middle of the country... they put street lights by those roundabouts. Makes a whole lot of sense to me! NOT!
I was reading some of the statistics and it seems pedestrians and people on bikes are having more accidents where there are round abouts.

I was in Jamaica and they drive on the left there, but I didn't do any of the driving. It does seem odd, but I guess to them it would be odd to drive on the right!

Breezey, I can imagine pedestrians and cyclists have trouble with circles, because a lot of drivers don't take them into consideration.
People here routinely drive in the bike lanes, especially when turning right.

What bike lanes? We don't have bike lanes and people are taking to using the sidewalks... something to do with wanting to live another day....

Sidewalks can actually be dangerous for cyclists, because for drivers, they are basically out of sight, out of mind.

Tater, sidewalks are a lot safer than being hit by a van and left laying while they take off and leave you. Here, it's hell for pedestrians and bikes. Nobody cares if you are on the street. They will run you over rather than wait for you to cross or get out of their way.
