Hi, Tater ! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I've not seen in you in a bit!Where ya been?
I took the test - (I love! that kind of thing!)
Thanks!
And... (drum roll, please...) the results are :
... Taaa-Daa ...
"46% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom."
EDIT: I took the "advanced"! test ...and ...
53% Dixie. Barely in Dixie.
I am apparently a "middle-of-the-road-er".
Works for me
... which is 'interesting'; I was born and raised
-until 1 month before my 13th birthday- in Colorado.
Pretty-much "central" I think...leaning toward "west"... )
certainly west! of the Mason-Dixon... and from then on ,
(not counting various "assigned addresses";U.S.A.F. ya know.)
... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ...
I've lived in Scottdale/Phoenix, AZ. DEFINITELY! southWESTERN. Huh.
Must be all that hangin' out with TEXANS... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Thanks! That! was FUN! };>

Re: Are you guys Yankees, or ya'll Dixie?
I got 46% Dixie as well, which seems a bit strange, since I was born and raised here in PA. Perhaps the ten years I spent in Florida has something to do with it.
I know that I said crick instead of creek, since that's what my peers called it, until I was old enough to know better.

Tater,
Yes! My Dad! was VERY CLEAR [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
about the pronounciation of some words.
We spent my 1st grade (elementary) in Ohio -
and I have never forgotten one (very brief!) conversation/instruction:
Dad:
"JoAnn, it is GET; not git and it is CAN; not kin. Do you understand? "
Me:
"Yes."
Dad:
"Good. Okay, be home in time for supper!"
My Mom said that when I was very small I picked up (mimicked)
whatever accent I was hearing.
She had a good friend visiting from -(??) -
heck if I remember right now ... it was someplace in
the deep South.
Mom said she was afraid her friend would think I was
making fun of her.
More than just-about anything else I pick up "Texas"
immediately.
Louisiana ? No way. I have NO IDEA what they say
most of the time.
("Spit out whatever is restricting your TONGUE,please,
and say that again?!?)
They sound 50% drunk / 50% speech impediment to me.
It sounds pretty; I just haven't ANY IDEA what they're saying.

Re: Are you guys Yankees, or ya'll Dixie?
Tater,
Did you take the "advanced" test too ?
I did.
My "problem" with almost ALL the questions was
my answer was "none of the above" - so I "settled"
on most of them.
1st test: 46% Dixie
2nd test: 53% Dixie. (Advanced)
I figure that makes me middle-of-the-road. };>

"Well, bless y'all's little ole pea-pickin' hearts!"
First time, I got 61%
Second time, 66% Dixie.
Well under the Mason-Dixon Line!

Well, I also had to call county offices all over North Carolina on my last job, where I would occasionally be told something like "Betty Lou might could help you..."

Re: Are you guys Yankees, or ya'll Dixie?
Tater,
YES!I have a small collection of colloquialisms I use!
I picked them up here and there from someone to
whom they were natural and familiar; I like them, so...
Every now and then someone says,
"Are you from ...?!?"
They are sort of puzzled when I say "no."
("You might maybe better hadn't ...") is one silly
FUN phrase.
And I "jiffy around" (we ALL do!) because of a
friend from Kentucky.
(I just remembered Dorthy Provine in "The Great Race"
singing, "He shouldnta hadn'ta oughten'ta swang on me")
She was wondrful and the song is roll-on-the-floor FUNNY!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
"Going all around Robin Hood's barn" ( 'procrastinating')
or "beating around the bush" - the one I grew up with;
(I shortened it to "bush-beating"... I'm not sure why...)
but "Robin Hood's barn" is acquired from someone else,
somewhere. I do remember that whoever it was came
from the "show me" state.

Ah. That there is a problem...
I loved that one of the options in the test
was "I'm fixing to ..." only it is always said,
"Ah'm a-fixing ta..."
