Actually I've spent a small amount of time periodically
(episodically?) over the years
composing just that - and receiving the occasional
(well-meaning, I'm sure... uh-huh [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]) suggestions.
I've always liked a variation on "As I was saying..."
for myself for obvious reasons.

(My son likes, "Hey...! Lips moving; still speaking!" for me.)

And - for a couple of people who threatened - for YEARS! -
to be dead in 2/5/10 years - and weren't... :
"See? And you said I was all talk!"

For one of my best friends I've chosen:
"Can I get back to you?"
(The man is incapable! of committing!)
I also like:
"Nothing I say tonight goes unless you hear from me
again in the morning."
