Have you eaten or baked homemade donuts?

If so, were they deep fried or baked?
I made baked ones and they turned out really good!

We helped my mom make donuts when we were kids; I believe they were all fried. How do you bake donuts?

There are donut pans, just for baking them. Last night, I baked chocolate ones. Today, I am going to make filled ones.. custard and raspberry filling.

They must be good. There was a minor disagreement about the last dounut.. eventually is was split three ways. lol

When I was little, my Mom used to make donuts.
She had a donut maker - the donut batter was pushed
out through a tube, kinda like a big frosting dispenser
for decorating, into a deep-fying 'tub'.
It was decided that it was waaaay to much trouble.
(I can imagine, looking back in it!)

Ja'aj, this is the basic recipe, but there are chocolate, lemon and others, as well.
VANILLA DONUTS
Yield 2 trays

2 cups flour
2 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbsp shortening
2 eggs

Preheat
oven 400 degrees. Apply a small amount of butter or vegetable oil to
donut cups and slightly rub over the area with a piece of cloth or a
paper towel. In a large bowl sift flour, baking powder and salt. Mix in
the rest of the ingredients until combined.

Fill pan cups 1/2 full and bake 400 degrees for 10 minutes.

Here is one glaze used.
OLD FASHION GLAZE

2 cups powered sugar
2 Tbsp corn syrup

Whisk
together the powdered sugar and corn syrup. Add water one tablespoon at
a time until thin enough to dip donuts. Allow the donuts to cool off
before you apply the glaze. Glaze, than sprinkle with jimmies or
sprinkles.

The kids want to make chocolate covered donuts too now. lol

Could be. We used to call them jimmies, but I've heard them called sprinkles elsewhere.

Hmmm... the Jimmies don't seem quite as colorful. More like earth tone colors and nothing else. The sprinkles have brighter colors. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Both jimmies and sprinkles have lots of different color combinations, depending, I suppose, on who makes them.

I just chose those two particular pictures to show that they are basically the same thing.
