Tater... I was looking at cans of coffee the other day. Some containers were cheaper and SEEMED like a good deal to many, until you REALLY look and see some of those cans are less weight!

I have noticed that... and the prices are going higher as the sizes grow smaller.

Since I've been doing more of the grocery shopping shop
I have noticed that too! Packages get smaller and prices get higher ... on LOTS of things, it seems. Increases in the cost of raw goods, oil, electricity, transport, etc ... are being passed along to the comsumer. I can still remember when candy bars were a nickel ... and they were full size! giggle
(Boy, am I old ... or what?!) laughing ass off

they even change the shape of containers to hide the fact they are smaller, eg, tooth paste i have used for years, now comes in a longer tube, but a lot thiner ,they must think we are complete idiots to not notice !! hair shampoo now has a curvy shape, yep INWARDS curve !! i would change brands, except they are special ones that i need, and everyone else is doing the same thing any way. Mad

Do you remember what Master Card was previously called?

And maybe a bit more difficult question; do you remember what Visa was formerly known as?

Never liked the "credit card thing."
Wasn't raised to use them.
Didn't they used to have one called Master Charge?

You are correct, Jack; Master Card was originally Master Charge. Visa was originally called something based on the bank that originally issued them.

I'm guessing Visa was the older "BankAmericard"
because I think it was The Bank Of America that started it all.
(???)

They changed the name from BankAmericard to Visa in the mid 70's.

I wasn't raised to use credit cards either. Have never had one, but keep getting others insisting I NEED one. No... I don't need one just to spend more than I have.

Much the same here, Breezey. dancing bunny
I've only had 2 credit cards:
one was a J.C. Penny's card that Eckerds talked me into
(Did you know that Eckerd Drug and Penny's was connected?)
and I only used it a few times ... felt like I HAD to immediately pay it off when the bill came ... and then, I had a Visa that I used ONCE on a vacation trip. (((LOL)))
Both of those cards expired on me, without renewal.
I don't have ANY right now (by MY choice.)
Like you, I could never understand paying MORE for something. Guess I was not raised being a "spoiled brat" who has to have things before you can actually pay for them. From the time I was little, I was told: "You don't get something until you have the money to pay for it." Imagine, tell that to some of these spoiled people today! That's why they're all in debt up to their ears! dancing bunny hahaha!

I am told credit cards are the American way. To have a credit card and owe lots on it is to have good credit. Owing on credit cards is good credit?

..and.... to borrow money from the bank it was an appointment with the manager, showing proof of income and other commitments, then wait a few days to get the yes or no. if the bank thought you 're not earning enough to cover payments, it was no.it was almost HARD to get money.
now there are offers of credit cards in the mail ,they beg you to use them and increase the limits !! anybody ,even out of work people, can get credit cards.

I have never taken a loan out or used credit cards to buy anything. The only exception will be a house. People are too easily talked into spending what they may not be able to pay back.
Ever get those offers for credit cards that say you are pre-approved? How is that when they can't even tell you what your social security number is? Just another way to bribe people to spend?
