What does it mean to contract out a war to private companies?
I recently came across this term and have never heard it before. Does that happen still?

Re: What does it mean to contract out a war to private companies?
It MEANS.... that OUR previous and current GOVERNMENT
(among many MANY others over the years)
has hired and signed a CONTRACT WITH - mercenaries.
BLACKWATER Xe, LLC ! to be specific - in this case.
(Gogogle is just FULL of info.. this is merely one ...)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Xe Services LLC is a private military company founded as Blackwater USA in 1997 by Erik Prince and Al Clark. The company has a wide array of business ...

They are in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc., among other
war zones/"police actions".
BLACKWATER is a famous name in MERCENARIES.
I can't believe you never heard of them Bree.
LOTS of ex-military are employed with them...
and/or considered hiring on... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] from all countries.
Their "employees are not solely American.
Blackwater does try to hire the best of the best.
They HAVE BEEN -
since the inception of our attack on Iraq.
This is NOT "new". Our government has hired
"contractors for a very long time.
BLACKWATER is just the most "prominent" that I know of -
and they're CURRENT.
Blackwater has been the subject of MANY "inquiries"
into bulk murder and other atrocities - charges filed by Iraqis,
among many MANY others - Blackwater is a MERCENARY
par-military outfit; they GO WHERE THE MONEY IS. -
I assume they've not only been employed by the U.S.
In so far as I know the most publicized "incidents" -
resulting in Congressional inquests - have absolved Blackwater. (?)
They have just this "minute" been contracted to aid in
the American 'Surge' in Afghanistan!!
IT MEANS... that - on the one hand - American combatants
will better better PAID! to die there....
It ALSO means! that our government is willing to pay
'NOT REGULAR MILITARY' (read: answerable to military review)
-and frequently it also means BETTER OUTFITTED! -
(much MUCH ! more than our members of our regular standing Army)
... among the other "niceties"/implications.
Our government is reluctant to purchase the VERY BEST Kevlar,
for instance.

Yeah, well... now you know.
I will say, in Blackwater's defense,
(not sure they really need any)
that - as mercs go - these guys are GOOD!

Bree,

Yeah, well... the correct box to check here is:
"None of the above"
I'm willing to bet that Blackwater and/or it's ilk
number Australians among their employees
and Austrailia among thier clients.
Mercs are as old as WAR. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: What does it mean to contract out a war to private companies?
I haven't checked, but I would imagine
Blackwater is listed in the Yellow Pages under
"Contractor, Military.
And that they are listed in "Soldier of Furtune" (magazine)
and that type of publication under
"MERCENARYS WANTED"
I haven't checked there, either.

It means trouble. Profiting from war is never a good idea.

Tater,
I see your point.
HOWEVER... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] we (U.S.) have ALWAYS! profited from war.
Ask any Hawk.
The GOP stands (and falls, IMO) on the
"War Is Good For The Economy" plank in their platform.
And then there's Boeing, Lockheed, Rolls Royce, etc.

I am well aware of that, Jaaj. Ike warned us to beware of the industrial military complex, and yet Haliburton continues...and McDonnell Douglas, and Boeing, and Westinghouse...

Re: What does it mean to contract out a war to private companies?
thanks for the info jaaj,i now understand what it means to contract out to private companies. it scares me to think sending soldiers of to kill and be killed is just somebodies business .yes, mercenaries have always been around, and always will be,and they are every where.
i'ts a horrible world ,but it's human nature to create these wars, based on the animal instinct of territorial and mating rights and mine's bigger than yours.it's the same from the tiniest little invisible to the naked eye organism, right through to the most destructive beings ever on this planet,us.agree or not agree, we are all caught up in it.
profiting from war? that's the idea of it !!

(((Rox))),
You're welcome... (?) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
AT LEAST... the men and women employed by a private company
SIGNED UP / VOLUNTEERED. Unlike the men and women who vounteer
join / are drafted to a county's Armed Forces.
( I KNOW they know they might fight and die.)
Money talks - it's just one more way to risk a life
-your own - for profit.
This way some of the money becomes theirs.
This is WHY I think women should play a much-bigger! role
in our politics. "Most" women need a better reason that a
scrap of land to kill their sons and daughters. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
They are also not afraid to defend their own.
Very very few wars were ever fought for any reason other
than "gain" of some sort.
I'm not sure is IS "human" nature to create wars.
I "think" MEN LIKE WAR.
That's why there's a never-ending supply of it.

Tater,
I knew you are...
"Halleburton"... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Aren't they DEAD, yet?
I remember when Cheney was Secretary of Defense during "Desert Storm"...
some reporter asked him if he aspired to greater political heights.
(What with being famous now, and all, I suppose... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] )
He said, 'No', he thought "Secretary of Defense" was perfect for him cuz
even as a young Senator he'd "never met a weapon I didn't vote for."
I laughed - and I believed him... about the weapons. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
