Tater, did you know people use to be embarrassed to ask for toilet paper? lol Kind of funny now, but I suppose that would be like people now not wanting to ask for preparation H.

i think ,tater, poison ivy would be an excellent reason to invent toilet paper.

I'll start with answering your question... Preparation H is a medication used for hemorrhoids. Not sure about now, but many people use to steal it because it was embarrassing to ask for it or be seen buying it.

It looks like there are varying answers as to who first made toilet paper and why.
"In 1857, Joseph Gayetty (not “Gayette” or “Cayetty,” as his name is often misspelled) produced the first commercially available toilet paper in the U.S. The tissue was moistened with aloe and sold in packages of 500 individual sheets—each one with a watermark bearing Gayetty’s name. It was sold as a medical product, and was not terribly successful."

'Preparation H' is an OTC medication originally sold
to reduce the swelling and alleviate the pain of hemorrhoids.
I say "originally" because...
since it has been discovered to also! reduce bags under the eyes
(it works great!) I doubt many people are embarrassed to buy it.

embarrassed by much of any thing at all.

... I worked in retail pharmacy, for years ... I could tell you LOTS of stories about such things as this!
People can be sooo funny. Of couse, I always handled such matters with the utmost professionalism. (I know, I know ... you think I'm such a nut ... but I DO know when to be serious.)
