Re: Do you have bird feeders or a way to feed the birds?
We have four or five bird-feeders in the back yard.
Then, when it really gets cold, there's a local bakery (Mrs. Bairds) where they sell big bags of bread that is much-passed it's "sell by" date ... We usually pick-up a few bags of "bird bread," to throw on the ground. So, our birdies are well-fed during the winter months.

I think I will be investing in some bird feeders. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
We have 3 Hummingbird feeders and we toss out
stale bread, etc. and bags of "bird-seed" we get
at PetSmart. (not too much "seed" in it) but it's
good for the birds.
I'm not crazy about the pigeons vs my car - [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
but I have no intention of letting them go hungry either.
The guy behind us has a ginormous! tree/bird condo.
You should see them coming home at sunset. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ja'aj... a bird condo! I would love to see that! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Bird seed without much seed? lol
This year... I am actually ALLOWED to feed the birds! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I sssssoooooooooooooooooooo! don't like that ... person...!
Goody! Feed them until they look like bowling balls then!
How many birds do you have in the winter? I thought
tey all came here or to visit C.W. ?
Rox,
I asked Google to show me pics of "spogies"...
they asked me if I meant "species?" (?) so, what's a "spogie"? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Rox,
Nope... no discernable seeds in the stuff. It's all really tiny.
Lots of stuff - (listed, I dunno what it is) - except the suet.
Ernest moved stuff around; I'm not sure if I will ever! find
some of it again - or I'd look at the bag.
It's pretty cool - I call it the Condo - it's actually some sort
of pine tree (looks more like a HUGE! Cottonwood from here)
and - I'm tellin' ya! - there must be 1500 hundred! birds living in it.

Rox,
Oh! Sparrows. Yes... we call them "sparrows" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Yes, all differnt kinds live next door... Sparrows [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And there are Pidgeons, natch -and Mockingbirds and
Grackels, and Crows and Woodpeckers. And Hummingbirds -
several types - but they aren't social with one another much
less other species.
I'm really not a big bird-fan, sorry.
I love the birds of prey; Hawks and Eagles and Owls, etc.
We have those! but not in the city... much.
The occasional owl family.

Allowed... to feed the birds.. yes. Before, we were told we couldn't really DO that because we'd attract too many birds. We even got written up for a bird making a nest in our garage. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I thought it was neat, but I guess not everyone sees it that way.
Old bread for the birds.. what about the end pieces? Seems nobody here likes those... the little brats! lol Will birds eat those, if I make sure they're small enough pieces?

Breezey, you could always use the end pieces for stuffing, or bread crumbs. I'm sure the birds aren't as finicky as some children are!
Bread crumbs or stuffing.. never really gave it much thought, but suppose that's not a bad idea. lol
But... if I do THAT... the birds get less! It's horrible having to make these decisions! lol

Uh... Bree?
Birds have beaks...
which enable them to rend and tear. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Trust me.
They will - if the pieces of bread are too large - manage.
Birds also LOVE (I dunno about the unpopped kernels)
POPCORN!
And - come to think of it - I've never seen an unpopped
kernel out there either...
Wild birds are also very good at chosing what they
will and will not eat.. EXCEPT! uncooked rice!
It swells in their stomachs. Baaadd! - very bad!
for the birdies. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Which is why it is now P.C.
(at least there is one good reason!)
to throw birdseed at the newly-wed couple.
Or anyone who pisses you off... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
