Does anyone else use chives?
If so, in what ways?
Now, I KNOW Ja'aj once mentioned she saw no reason for them... or something like that.. but, I grow my own and love them for so many different things! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Does anyone else use chives?
They go great with baked potatoes, or twice cooked taters, or tater skins...I think they also go good with salmon, along with a little dill cream sauce.
Basically, they can go well with anything where you'd want onions, but not strong flavored ones. Chicken broth or ramen noodles, for example.

Breezey, have you tried picking them when they are young, before they get too potent?

Re: Does anyone else use chives?
maybe you have a stronger variety than we have here breezey, but they never affect my eyes.lovely choped fine and sprinkled over anything ,garlic chives are also good, when you don't want the more robust garlic cloves.

Re: Does anyone else use chives?
Bree,
That sounds about right; you quoted me correctly. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Scallion tops work as well (IMO) as chives -
and I'm sure you grow your own onions.
My Mom LOVED chives - and she grew her own; etc.
AND onions... AND just-about everthing else.
(We had six stalks of CORN! in her truck garden.)
Upon reading Tater and Rox' answers...
I may (maybe) might have been hasty.
Possibly.
There is NO WAY I'm going to try to coax the little darlings
to grow here for me. I am not going to PAY for them, either,
so never you mind about that. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Rox,
What are "garlic chives"?
Are they chives that have acquired a garlic flavor
by association?
That's a pretty-looking dish you posted. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Tater,
'Sour cream and chives' -usually said like it is all one word!-
by the devoted as a topping for their baked potato
was a staple of my growing up and ordered or added
by all but me and The Brother. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Does anyone else use chives?
Roxi, I think Jaaj was referring to a young child's take on the expression, who, instead of saying You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink, when asked to finish the sentence and given the first part, "You can lead a horse to water, but________________________.", said
"You can lead a horse to water, but HOW?"!!
