Re: What is a sweet relief, to you?
The first thing I thought of the instant! I saw this ?

I love quiet ! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The very first thing I do when I'm alone, immediately -
wherever I am - home, office, car - etc. is shut off !
(the T.V., stereo,radio ) - whatever! is
MAKING THAT DAMNED NOISE ! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Instantly ! my shoulders DROP! about 6 inches. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Particularly if 'whatever it is' - is turned down to a
'mumblemurmurmumble' ... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
WHY don't they just shut the damned thing OFF?
Huh? WHY?
There is no way! they can actually hear what is
being said, played, etc.
I.E.; [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]...
My crew (an otherwise EXCELLENT! and dedicated group!)
HAD TO HAVE!! a stereo over their desks.
>> HAD ! TO HAVE ONE. <<
Then, with all the conversations going on,
theirs, mine and all the rest of the "interaction"
around and between us -
(''customer service" and all that paycheck-related stuff)
plus, of course, needing to be able to HEAR! what the customer
on the line was saying - they turned it down to a "rrrrrr rrrrrr rrrrrr" that was just-barely audible - none of 'them' could possibly HEAR it!
well enough to know what was playing much less enjoy it... (Although,to be fair, they claimed that they could...)
? - Maybe... sitting on all those AMPS - for all those years...?)
NAH.
So, by the end of the day, I was just-barely! able to
'maintain composure' long-enough for them to
GET!! OUT!! and go on home/wherever please... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
("You don't have to go home but you can't stay here!")
One of the other troubleshooters - (in a different office / area, customers-wise but across the hall from us in actual point-of-fact)
and I would RACE!!to turn the damned thing OFF.
Now - THAT! was funny!
John-Francis and I would practically FALL on one-another with relief. };>

Re: What is a sweet relief, to you?
Rox,
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Around here we have an abundance of Mockingbirds.
I always understood that a Mockingbird mimicked SONGbirds...
and other pleasant sounds. Er... NOT the one by my Mom's house..
about 3 blocks away as near as we could tell - and at about 3 A.M.!
that little harbinger of raucous ! said,
"CHEEEEP!" loud-enough to be heard at that distance ...
and INSIDE! Mom's house! It would cause us to jump! out of
a sound sleep!
Fortunately it only caused everyone to giggle helplessly...
We all pictured a GIANT baby chick!
"CHEEEEP! dammit!"
Kind of like the Baby Huey of infant chickens... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: What is a sweet relief, to you?
"sweet relief" ... After a long, hot, dry Texas summer ... it will be the first cold front that brings some crisp, cool, autumn air this way!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
... and oh yeah ... it will be sweet relief from hunger ... when you learn how to play that video game
and make me a nice big sammich! ...
