Would you be able to sell something without giving the facts of what's wrong with the item? Empty Would you be able to sell something without giving the facts of what's wrong with the item?

If you're selling a home, car, toy, etc... would you be able to sell it (with problems you know about) and not tell the buyer? Example... your car has a brake problem and you can't fix it. You try to sell your car. Do you tell prospective buyers about the brake problem or not say anything?

My conscience wouldn't let me be dishonest, whether it's lying about something or not disclosing something I am aware of.

A BRAKE??! problem? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Yeah, I think I'd "mention" it.

In general - (I don't sell anything; never have) -
big items -cars, washers,dryers, etc...
Yeah... I would say why I'm selling it - and what I know
to be major problems. (and a BRAKE! problem would certainly
be something to "mention"!)
I doubt if I'd go on and on about it's drawbacks -
I'm trying to SELL it, after all...
If someone is buying a used car, "burns oil like a sheik"
is something to ASK about, don't you think?

But yard sales/rummage sales - small items
and, actually, BIG items - cars, appliances, etc...
I really think it is up to the buyer to protect him/herself.
Business establishments have LAWS - as they should.

I think most people price a large item to be commiserate
with it's condition - but sellers are greedy sometimes
and BUYERS want something for nothing. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
If I buy something "used" for an individual I don't know...
it's my responsibilty to check it out.

Ja'aj, I once bought a van, paid $1,000 for it and was told nothing was wrong with it. I took it to a garage and was informed something was wrong with the left wheel section... eventually, the wheel would fall off, it it wasn't fixed. The guy denied knowing this, but refused to talk to me about it after that.
I junked the van out shortly after. The man who bought it, drove it down the driveway to load on a trailer... got almost to the trailer when the whole front, left side let loose.
Yep... some people don't care if a whole family would die as long as they can make a buck.

That's why I have learned to take it to a garage first, before I buy it, to have a reliable trusted mechanic check it out for me. If he finds something wrong that might not be major, that would be a negotiating point. If he finds something major, well, I might have spent 50 or a hundred bucks to have it checked out, but I would save a lot more in the long run.

Tater, [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Yup! I'm glad you "checked it out". Yow!
Looking out for yourself is smart.
I am sometimes willing to take a chance -
(washing machine, electric typewriter) but not! with something
that has the potential to kill me - to say nothing of the others
who might be with me.
I have always had someone check out cars too
if I don't know the seller.
I just don't sell stuff... that way (if it's a gift) I have no problem
explaining what's wrong ith it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Many times, I have had less than honest people get mad at me because I wouldn't lie or hide facts about things I sold. The theory was I should just sell the items and not be honest... make more money from the sale.
Even my rummage sales... if someone wanted to put something in to sell, it had to work and not be broken or it wasn't going in.

I always think about how it would make me feel to be ripped off or lied to about something I bought and can't do that to others. Some people say I am too honest. lol

Nope, nothing wrong with it and it might actually make people a little more trusting if others followed the golden rule too.
