I think you've asked this just to wind me up! You know I couldn't resist.
Im not sure that anyone has a broad enough perspective to get anywhere close to an answer which can adequately address "the question". Its such a wide subject, and there is such a diversity of "alls". Perhaps we should build a supercomputer to address the problem. It should be through in.....oooh.......10000 years or so. I wonder what answer it would come up with?

Computers... simple, complex, super, etc... are still only as good as what man makes them. We'd have all of man's answers thrown in and the computer would probably overload.
Just my thoughts!
And I have to wonder if too many spend too much time pondering the whys and wherefors instead of just getting on with the living of life.

In my over subtle way I was refering to "The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. If you havent read it its very clever. It operates on two levels, a funny, very entertaining, sci fi fantasy on the one hand, and a really deep philosophical tome for those with eyes to see. Its by far the best book on philosophy that Ive ever found. If reading is too much there is a BBC vid you can relax and enjoy. Youve picked exactly up on Adams point.

I have seen "42" as an answer a few times and I always think "NO!" lol
As for reading, I love reading and will be going to the library this coming week.. will be searching that book out.
