Well, yeah! See... people don't see it as a big deal until it pounces on them. Like many things, it starts out small and before people know it... they've lost something... privacy, rights, etc... and by that time.. it's a little too late.. in most cases.

There are a lot of good things to recommend the "street" cameras...
(prevention! is always a plus - IMO) - but I think they need to post
REMINDERS! (They don't need to point the cameras out)

Street cameras, store cameras, cameras at parks, beaches, resorts, etc...

Hell, even some of the private camera laws are pretty bad!

I have one word to describe how I feel about the SATURATION of cameras in public places: "1984".

Well okay, that's a number, but I didn't feel like spelling it out. but, get the picture? If you're not familiar with the book, I recommend it. Parts of it may send chills down your spine, as it was written as a novel, not a prediction, but the author wrote it in 1948, and in a way it is a foreboding of what 1984 could possibly be like, if certain things in politics were allowed to happen...

Oddly enough, in my humble but slightly annoying opinion, he was about a decade or so off the mark.

To me, more intrusive, maybe even invasive in our lives, is the GPS tracking devices on your cellphone that unsuspecting prolls willingly, insistently carry with them everywhere they go. And they PAY for the "priviledge"!

Yeah, I know it "sounds good"; lost child, lost grown-up, etc.,
but there is something insidious and frightening about a
Federal Law requiring all cell phones to have one.
(Any time the Feds get involved, I get interested.)

I don't say it didn't start out as a benevolent idea - possibly -

Privacy is no longer protected; it is every weirdo's
"right" to snap or film whatever they like.
Try complaining about it - "there's no law against it."
Oughta be.
And "they" / WE need to revist the "Public Domain" laws.
They're absurd!
When someone chooses to act or sing for a living -
and (God forbid) they're very good at it - .
those gifted people can kiss their right to privacy goodbye.
That kinda sucks, IMO.

The cellphone problem... I think it kind of reminds me of the book "Cell". Most people have a cell phone so of course, somebody is going to find a way to USE that for other purposes. I don't own a cell phone and don't want one.

As for camera laws, if you look at the link I posted... it's an example of what people are upset about with neighbors and others allowed to use cameras.. not in public places.
