How important is a will to you?
Do you see having a will made as a really pressing matter or not something to really worry about?

Hmmm ... are you trying to tell me that I might be needing a will sometime soon? Now ... I told you to stop having those thoughts about making rabbit stew!

Re: How important is a will to you?
Well Jack, my sister's son is pushing her to get a will made out. As I see it, her children are full grown and the only ones who will really benefit from that will is the children. She will be dead and not care about that house and stuff in it. She says she can't afford the will and I think if her son is so concerned, he should pay since he is the one who will benefit from it.
Part of me understands the need for a will. Just wondering how others see it.

Re: How important is a will to you?
Bree,
I think your sister should invesigate the on-line site - it's $69.00 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
A will is only as important as it is to the government and the heirs.
Unless she wants her sons to never speak to one another again - I suggest she get on it.
Mine is simple - (I used to think I had nothing to "leave" to anyone)
or a need. Now I have one - it says - basically- if it is mine
I leave it to Greg. The brother is the 2nd beneficiary.
It can't hurt - and I guarantee it will save a LOT of animosity.
Bunny,
Don't panic - no will is needed for RABBIT STEW. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: How important is a will to you?
Ja'aj... she is on a very limited income.. less than most of us could make it on and is still paying off her husband's doctor bills from before he died. Her children earn big bucks. If they care so much, they could easily pay to have it done.
I know $69 doesn't sound like a lot, but to some it is like a thousand dollars.

Re: How important is a will to you?
I agree with Ja'aj ... saves potential "family problems" after you're gone. It's not something we like to think about, but it IS something we should take care of before "the big day." Aren't there places that provide information on writing your own will and getting it notarized or formalized for legal purposes?Ja'aj wrote:...

Re: How important is a will to you?
Buuny,
I can NOT! remember the name! of the damned site!
I will Google it...
Wow! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The $69 didn't narrow it down much.
This one looks "doable"
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
As it isn't my Will - I suggest anyone who's interested "Google" it for themselves.
Actually, there is no need for anything but a pen and paper
and a safe place to put one- unless there is an "estate" of
some size involved.
For the less-trusting... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] -any law firm will mail it after you
become the "deceased." for a nominal fee. So will your bank.

(HAH!) and "holigraphic".

Re: How important is a will to you?
I think Jaaj is right in that a will can be completed for little or nothing, as long as it meets any legal requirements. The last time I needed something notarized, the fee was nominal, maybe $5.00. In my understanding, if a person dies without a will, it often goes into probate court, which can cost thousands of dollars, and take months if not years to resolve. Even if the person has little or no money, they may have assets, such as a house, car, heirlooms, etc.

Re: How important is a will to you?
Okay... giving this some thought.
If wills are so easy to do, why are there so many lawyers being hired for it? Seriously... seems complicated to remember to name every last thing.. some things we may not even think of, but may be really important to include.
Can't people contest wills and still make it a real hassle?

Re: How important is a will to you?
Anyone can make a real hassle out of just-about anything.
That isn't the real point here... and most people honor the
wishes of a loved one - or have respect for their siblings.
If not - not.
If the estate is large it likely would be very helpful to
have someone who speaks legalese. Not all of them are
hundreds of dollars a minute - nor are all of them crooks.
Mine is neither much to leave - nor do I have several heirs.
It doesn't really matter - naming names is what's required
and trying for a little equality.
There is no need to list every stick of furniture and blade of grass.
If the heirs want to make it a circus later that bercomes
their problem
Very little can be done about it.

Re: How important is a will to you?
You know... your sister can choose an executor to mediate
and leave a will that states that everything is to be sold and
the proceeds divided equally - after taxes. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Or, she can deed things to her sons NOW... and circumvent
all that crap.
She can put a car title jointly in her name and oneor the
other son's and another vehicle jointly with hers in another's
name etc.
She can put both or one name on the farm with hers -
survivor(s) takes all... etc. Leave a will that states the contents
are to be sold and proceeds split...
She can use a little imagination. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
If they kill one another after their Mother dies...
that's their call.

Re: How important is a will to you?
I think the biggest worry would be her "siblings"...
Some of them might have vulture-like tendencies... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and she would NOT want that! to happen..
AND/OR... she can name you executor. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

(((Bree))),
You're welcome... the "sibling-factor"
(so NOT! 'Auntie Bree')
may be why "the boys" are in full-court-press mode.
Some of their aunts & uncles may be a concern?
