Internet providers

Okay... does it seem that some companies have a monopoly on the internet services? I have been looking up different internet providers and many of the names I find... all end up belonging to one well known company. Why is it so hard to find independent internet that isn't offered through a cable company?
I want a fair price and not to order it with my cable and phone. I am trying to divide the three and not go through a cable company or phone company for any combinations. Seems when you order phone and cable together.. they go out together... a lot! Same goes for internet, cable and phone... one goes out, they all go out.
Is there still internet not offered through cable and phone companies?

Yes, Clear Wire, now called Clear. They have nothing to do with cable or phone. They are independent of both. You sign up, they give you this small modem, and its fast, easy and convenient. If the cable goes out we are still up and running. If the electric goes out, then we are down, but seldom does that happen.Check out Clear Wire.

Ron, it is saying it's dial up? I would never want dial up. it stalls, it's really slow and causes huge problems.

Breezey, Clear Wire has a map of coverage areas online, but they don't appear to have coverage in Wisconsin presently.

Tater, that's what I kind of figured. I'll have to keep looking.

Thats too bad as Clear has its own modem they give you, its not dial up, not even close, its just a small modem that plugs into the wall socket and one plug goes into your computer. Thats weird they don't have that in Wisconsin. Maybe its too cold,lol [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ron, Clear Wire is relatively new, and mostly available in certain larger cities so far, like Chicago and Philly and LA. They are planning on adding a lot more, but I suppose they are getting the largest population densities first in order to maximize profits. This link shows their current coverage.

I take that back, they don't have coverage in LA. They do seem to have a lot of coverage in Texas though; maybe Jack could use them.
