Re: Questions Only
Serious as a heart attack. They put 2 stents in and I'm doing well. I'm getting out of ICU today, and possibly released tomorrow.
My heart is actually in fairly good shape overall; I had 2 arteries that were blocked, one of them totally. They have me on Lipitor and Plavix, and say I should be fine as long as I keep doing what I've been doing as far as diet and exercise are concerned.

It probably had more to do with what I was doing before I was doing what I'm doing now, like smoking, drinking, not exercising,..

Re: Questions Only
Also, I didn't ALWAYS eat a healthy diet in the past. During over 10 years working at a pizza shop, I've had more than my share of saturated fats and cholesterol, from the cheese, pepperoni and sausage, as well as cheese steaks, donuts, sticky buns...
As a kid, we drank LOTS of whole milk, and trans fats were considered healthy back then (i.e., Crisco and margarine). As a rule, we had a lot more cool-aid and soda than orange juice or cranberry. And red meat more often than anything else for protein. Fiber was something you used for insulation or boats! (fiberglass)

I'd have to say that partly, parents need to make sure they aren't giving children all the junk shit they already know isn't good. I hardly ever buy donuts or soda and we don't have kool aid at all.
Whole milk..I still love it and nobody will get me to change that! lol Juices aren't all that healthy either..better off with the actual fruit and juice as a once in a while thing.
Feel better soon, Tater.

Re: Questions Only
Juice has sugar, but it's all natural, unprocessed sugar, with all kinds of vitamins and minerals and anti-oxidants. Much healthier than kool-aid or soda.
Whole milk is fine in moderation, but we never even heard of 2% milk until we were adults!
In my mom's defense, for decades they were told that vegetable shortening was the healthier alternative to butter. I made lots of oatmeal cookies with it!

Re: Questions Only
LOL Tater, I meant all the junk stuff...kool aid is just as bad, or worse, than soda. I used to drink a ton of soda when younger. Now...I am lucky if I drink one or two a year.
And yes, the sugar in juice is different, but my understanding is that it still needs to be avoided as an every day thing.

When I mentioned my restrictions(no heavy lifting, driving or sexual activity until cleared by my cardiologist), I was responding to this post when you asked about any changes.
They encourage moderate exercise, such as walking and riding my bike. I figured out fairly quickly that if I find myself getting tired, I need to take a break, or maybe even a little nap. I have been monitoring my heart rate and blood pressure, which have both been really good so far. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and I hope to schedule an appointment with my cardiologist next week. I'll also be starting a cardiac rehab program sometime in the next few weeks.
As my cardio doctor told me on Sunday, I dodged a bullet. My heart is actually in pretty good shape for someone in my position; it was just the 2 arteries going in to the heart that were blocked (the ones they put the stents in). A good analogy might be, Traffic is fine on the expressway; but there was an overturned truck on the entrance ramp. The truck was towed away, and now all traffic is flowing smoothly again.

Re: Questions Only
I'm feeling good, but I do tend to get tired fairly quickly, and I know that I need to pace myself and not try to do too much. I'm getting a lot of reading in, in between physical activities and my outpatient program, which is Mon., Tue., and Thurs. from 9:30 to 12:45.

Doing okay, compared to you! Still have the same issues, but with an added twist. Doctors and specialists have no clue what is wrong and I got tired of it all. Now, I just keep busy, even with added problems.
Other than that, really did start two businesses. They aren't huge, but I never really put effort into having a huge business. I want to keep them small and manageable.

Breezey, I get the feeling you won't give up, and eventually you will figure out what's going on. You might need a break, but you WILL get through it.
What businesses did you start, and how are they doing? I know you mentioned something about them before, but please forgive this old man's memory lapses..

Re: Questions Only
starting my own cleaning company which is just now taking off since I put a real effort into it. The other is selling things I get at a real deal or steal. lol
Both are doing okay with the little real effort I have put into them. I think it's just because I still have my regular job and a full day at home too that I don't push to do more with the businesses.
As for my health, I really don't think anyone is trying to figure it out anymore.
I need a break but am not getting any.
Yet... I still love my free time in back yard and gardens!!

I think you are doing it the right way, slow and steady wins the race! I would build them up just enough so that they are profitable, but not overwhelming.
Gardening is a great hobby, and it's healthy exercise as well. Plus, the results are beautiful!
I planted over 200 bulbs last fall, and each and every one of them was a prayer when I planted them, and now they are a very attractive Mother's Day gift.

That is exactly how I see it!! I don't want to be fighting to get it all done or end up having to hire others to help because I overextended myself.
The gardening is something I love to do. It's just getting harder to do with all my issues, but I still do it because I cannot spend the year without watching my gardens grow and produce.
I remember your pictures last year and you telling me you were planting those bulbs.

Hello Tater!! So sorry about being so far behind! Many have been sick here for the last few days... a domino effect! So far, seven sick people... a few get better while others get sick. Other than that, had a birthday party on Sunday and spent yesterday buying a new lawn mower and working in yard and another garden area. So far behind from being sick.
How are you doing, Tater?

Good morning Breezey, hope everybody there is feeling better.
To give you an inkling of what things are like around here, my 83 year old mom just yelled, "I want to watch you use the toilet!" to my 60 year old brother. You cannot make this stuff up!

I'm glad to hear things are going better. If I know you at all, I know there's a darn good reason why you say "somewhat" back to normal..
Yeah, it WAS hilarious, only my mom didn't think so when I reminded her of the exact words a few minutes later. It seems that my bro is having a little problem finding the bathroom at the moment. Long story.

Escaped Zoo Peacocks That Caused Scene on I-76 Are Still on the Lam
Zoo officials say they will work with police to corral the missing flock on Thursday.

Four peacocks with a taste for adventure caused quite a scene on I-76 on Wednesday evening when they stopped traffic after escaping from the grounds of the Philadelphia Zoo.
A spokesman for the zoo explained to NBC10 that the animal sanctuary’s peacock flock is permitted to roam the property freely for guests to interact with. While they sometimes venture past the zoo’s gates, the peacocks typically return home on their own accord after a short time away. The taste of freedom was apparently too sweet yesterday evening, however, as the four birds strutted their way down I-76 westbound near the Girard Avenue exit around 8:30 p.m.

Two lanes were shut down on the highway – causing a backup for miles – as Pennsylvania state police followed the path of the peacocks closely. Troopers eventually managed to get the flock off the road but were ultimately unable to catch them as they flew into the woods surrounding I-76.

Zoo officials say their missing friends went to roost for the night and plan on picking up the search with police on Thursday.
Update: According to multiple reports, one of the escaped peacocks has been found dead. Police say the search for the additional three birds could take “days or weeks.”
