Do you know of any "banned" books?
Is there a book that was banned that you felt never should have been?

Re: Do you know of any "banned" books?
The only book I know of that was banned, that comes to my mind at this late hour.. Was "Lady Chatterley's Lover" that was written by D. H. Lawrence back in 1920 something.. It was banned because it was considered far too raunchy in the era it was written. It was originally going to be named "John Thomas and Lady Jane". I only remember this because I collect old books and I have a copy of each book and remember reading them both by the same author and realising that they were the exact same story..... Funny the things that stick with you.. lol (-:

Re: Do you know of any "banned" books?
Hey Lorry! Thank you for that interesting and informative answer!
Too raunchy for that time... makes me think maybe we shouldn't (as a society) have allowed the standards to change.
I'll be back after I do some research on this... note, I said SOME! lol

I'm going to start here...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
It's hard to decide what things to let children see, hear and read and at what age some things are appropriate or not. And it's hard to figure out when a child needs (OR does a child need?) to lose some innocence and see there is negativity and bad happenings in the world.
And... when do we let children in our care start making their own choices on books, videos, games, etc...?
And... shouldn't we want a society that cares enough to help with that or is it something each family should control on their own?

Huckleberry Finn banned!!! Well, I have learned something today thanks Tater.
Howdy Breezey.. I think we have gone too far with what we allow our kids to see. I think as adults we have a choice to choose what we read.. but the sad part is that many parents of today don't always monitor what their children are reading or watching on TV.... Just thinking how Fifty Shades of Grey would have gone back in the early 1920's when Lady Chatterley was banned.. Fifty Shades leaves NOTHING to the imagination and I would hate to think of that getting into the hands of children!!!!!

Interesting reading and a list of books and places banned...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Should any and all books be published and allowed or where to draw the line?
