As children, do you think we are taught to embrace differences in others or..
to fear those differences?

Some "of us" yes; some no.
My parents waited until I voiced a concern, question,
observation or what-have-you and then agreed that whatever
I said was true. If I didn't have negative input, they let it go
ar that. If I did seem "bothered" by it, good or bad, they explained;
and never negatively.
Very blond (nearly white) hair, darker skin, accent different
than the local one.. etc. I was fascinated! by other accents!
I had to know how they sounded like that! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I was envious
of darker skin; it looked so pretty !
(And with no need to try to "tan" - not fair.)

As far as I recall, I wasn't influenced one way or the other, I was naturally fascinated by people different to myself.At age 5 all I wanted was to go to Africa and play with the kids there , wear a lap lap and live in a grass hut.I am now the adult version of that !

I think... maybe... we are taught more by actions and events? My mom got along with almost anyone and everyone. So many different types of people were in our lives.
I remember my first meeting with actual "native American Indians" and all that I learned by living around them. Their culture fascinates me, as do many others.
When I was a lot younger, Mexicans were always around. Seems they love goat meat. lol
At other times, there was always someone new and interesting to be around. I think I grew up not seeing difference as anything at all.

I remember the similarities, not much difference.
