One of the most famous sites here in Philly is Independence Hall, where the second Continental Congress was held, and the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Within an hour's drive or so to the Lancaster, PA area is Amish country, where they still drive horse and buggies, and shun all modern conveniences.

love the history tater, independence hall looks impresive, are you able to tour inside, is it still being used for something ,or is it a historical museum now, are any original documents on display ?
also love what the amish are doing ,good luck to them if they can resist the modern conveniences, their simple life style is hard work no doubt ,but looks like they are contented with their choice.

Let's try to avoid the worst of the Texas summer heat.
However, if we swing by Dallas in September, we can all go to the State Fair of Texas. Should be lots of fun!
Here's a picture of "Big Tex" and a link for more info:

Gets plenty hot here in the summer.
I've lost track of how many triple-digit days
we've had in a row now. Seems like weeks & weeks.
Seems hotter now than in my younger days, although as a kid, you tolerate such things much better I think.
Have not had any REAL rain in weeks, just a brief shower here and there when the thunderstorms blow up.
Humidity only makes it feel hotter.
Thank goodness for air-conditioning and iced tea!
Water restrictions and burn-bans are a fact of life.
Our Ja'aj can tell you about the heat, too.
Arizona is hot-hot-hot. I really look forward to the fall and some cooler weather! Can't get here soon enough for meee!

Hope we can make a quick stop in Egypt.
I have always wanted to see the sphinx & the pyramids!
(I assume that we have a security detail on this trip ... visiting some places in the world could be a risky thing these days. Ya just never know ... better safe, than sorry!)

The posts about art museums reminded me that I forgot about one of the more underrated highlights of the city here in Philly, The Philadelphia Art Museum, affectionately known as "the art museum', not only for the contents, but the building itself.

Re: Shall we take a trip around the world? (repost)
Yes Roxy, the art museum takes up the entire building (it is one of the largest museums in the U.S.) but I'm not sure exactly what percentage of it is open to the public; I'm sure there are also offices and storage space involved, and I know there is a restaurant as well.
I couldn't tell you what if anything is on permanent display, but I do know they have rotating exhibits, often of world renowned artists.
Renoir is one of the exhibits currently being featured.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
"The Museum presents more than 25 exhibitions each year, ranging from comprehensive single-artist retrospectives to historical surveys to focused presentations that explore specific topics. Works of art from the Museum's collections, many not regularly on view, as well as masterpieces on loan from museums worldwide are featured in these installations."
Museum Collections
"The Museum is home to over 225,000 objects, spanning the creative achievements of the Western world since the first century AD and those of Asia since the third millennium BC. The European holdings date from the Medieval era to the present, and the collection of arms and armor is the second largest in the United States. The American collections are among the finest in the country, as are the expanding collections of modern and contemporary art. In addition, the Museum houses encyclopedic holdings of costume and textiles as well as prints, drawings, and photographs that are displayed in rotation for reasons of preservation."
