Pine, spruce, or other evergreen wood
should never be used in barbecues.
These woods, when burning or smoking, can add harmful tar and resins to the food. Only hardwoods should be used for smoking and grilling, such as oak, pecan, hickory, maple, cherry, alder, apple, or mesquite, depending on the type of meat being cooked.

Adolph Hitler did not create the swastika.
The swastika is an ancient religious symbol of good fortune. It was used on ancient Greek pottery and Mesopotamian coins, Celtic and Scandinavian artifacts, and art and religious objects from India, China, Egypt, and pre-Columbian America. Hitler appropriated the swastika and used its mirror image as a symbol for the Third Reich, causing the swastika to become one of the most hated symbols in the history of humanity. Since 1945, it has been illegal to display the swastika in Germany.
Here's some history of the symbol:

The Statue of Liberty is not in New York City.
The Statue of Liberty stands in New Jersey on Bedloe's Island, renamed Liberty Island in 1956. Although the island sits in New York Harbor, it is within New Jersey's waters. An 1834 compact with the State of New Jersey gives the State of New York control over the island. Sales tax charged on the island and state income taxes paid by the families who live there go to the State of New York. A Jersey City power company provides the power on the island.

Frankenstein was not a monster.
In both the 1818 novel (Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus, written by Mary Shelley at age eighteen) and the 1931 movie (Frankenstein starring Boris Karloff), Frankenstein is the name of Victor Frankenstein, a student of natural psychology, who creates the monster. In the novel, Frankenstein names his monster Adam. In the movie, the monster goes unnamed.

The United States flag
has not always had thirteen stripes.
The first flag of the United States, adopted by Congress on June 14, 1777, had thirteen stripes and thirteen stars, each representing the thirteen original colonies. After Vermont became the fourteenth state in 1791 and Kentucky became the fifteenth became the fifteenth state in 1792, Congress added two more stars and two more stripes to the flag in 1795. When five more states joined the Union, Congress ruled that after July 4, 1818, the flag would revert permanently to thirteen stripes.

The popsicle was invented in 1905
by an 11 year old boy named Frank Epperson.
Accidentally leaving a mixture of water and soda, with a stirring stick, on his porch overnight he found a frozen pop in the morning. He initially named the frozen pop an "Epsicle" but when he got older his kids asked for a "Pop's" sickle and the name stuck.
Americans eat on average 5 1/2 gallons of icecream a year. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July as National Icecream Month.

From the 1500s: Sometimes people could obtain pork & feel really special. When company came over, they would bring out some bacon & hang it to show it off. It was a sign of wealth & that a man could bring home the bacon. They would cut off a little to share with guests, sit around & chew the fat.
