Stuffed tomatoes
Have you ever tried them... made them and tasted them? lol
If so, your thoughts and what they were stuffed with.
If not... I am suggesting you may want to!

Love stuffed tomatoes. I put cooked rice into them and top them with cheese and bake. What do you do Breezey?

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
Shredded zucchini and onions.. sauteed. lol
When nice and tender... some cheese and heavy cream and spices.. when nice and thick, I fill the tomatoes and steam them. I just LOVE these!
Your way.. I usually do with peppers.

I know they're a real hit here!
I tried to find an original recipe to share with you.. can't find it! I got to a point I just added whatever amounts look good to me. lol
I have changed the type of squash used, the type of cheese... and each time, I learn what works... and what doesn't! lol
I don't like wasting, so... the insides of the tomatoes get added to what is left of the squash and cheese mixture and heated. I eat it just like that.

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
I like tomatoes no matter how you slice them, or don't slice them; fresh and raw in salads, stir fries, salsa, sauce, soups, stews... I have had stuffed tomatoes, but couldn't tell you what they were stuffed with. Ground beef and rice mixture, maybe?

I might just have to start a few tomato plants next month so I can try them.

Indoors, I mean, so they have a good head start when ready to be transplanted outdoors, which here might be May, and I imagine for you might be more like June.

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
No matter how many tomato plants I grow, I never have enough tomatoes! And when winter hits, we pay high prices because we can't grow our own outside.

One word comes to mind, Breezey: Hydroponics.
Lorry, it's a month into summer down there, better get a move on!

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, typically indoors.

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
My hydroponics looks like a frozen waterfall! The onions I have in there are doing well considering the temperature.
I kept some of my late tomato plants which didn't catch up enough to fruit last year and they are on a windowsill and in flower. I never seem to get the timing right. Hopefully this year.
We stuff ours with minced beef and onions with a little garlic added.

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
I would think I need more space to have hydroponics... a safe place it wouldn't get dumped... maybe not such a good idea at this point in my life. lol
P, you and Lorry do about the same to stuff them..?

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
No, I was thinking about where you could grow indoors. A basement would be another option, but if the rug rats have access, that's probably not a viable option either.

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
Basements are cold... and I just really don't have the right setup to heat plants...nor do I want to try. lol For now... I'll stick with my parsley, chives and whatnot...

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
Mint does well in cool temps. Oregano and basil as well, I believe. And onions and garlic as well, but you'd need a fairly deep pot for root plants.

Re: Stuffed tomatoes
If you're considering heated/lighted hydroponics consider including fish in the closed system. You feed the fish, the fish feed the plants.

I have basil and a few other plants... just no room for anything beyond what can go on window sills or small areas of floor.

Haha!! I rescued a plant that was being thrown away at work. They agreed I could take it home. It looked so neglected. Today, it looks so beautiful and expanding! lol
Found some shoots from a plant in the garbage... put them in water and they are getting roots... my co worker thinks I have a green thumb. lol

I'm trying to grow the top of a pineapple. It's really the wrong time of the year, but we'll have a go.

P, you should try to grow the bottom of the pineapple; it's much tastier!
