The Horse
[b]A Horse, A Horse, My Kingdom For A Horse.
(or, it's nice to have visitors, but this isn't quite what I was expecting!)[\b]
Sunday 22nd March 2015
That famous Son of York
Richard III
Love him as king,
Hate him as rogue,
Immortalised by our very own Will S,
Returned from Bosworth Field
(a little indirectly it must be said!).
Escorted to the door
Of Leicester Cathedral
(somewhat late for his own funeral!).
In a short oak coffin
(about two feet short)
Lined with lead
(Donated from the roof of York Minster?).
As I pondered the bards great line,
As if by magic (in some strange sign)
I heard far off a steely din
A raucous clatter racing in
I couldn't place this country sound
But on it went, and echoed round
(NOTE TO SELF: Thats three! cut out the rymes !)
Louder and louder
Closer and closer
Until...
Until.....
Yes?
Get on with it!
Until around the bend....
Around the bend...
Yes?
Oh do get on with it we havent got all day!
A horse appeared at full gallop!
Really?
(the full sized version, four legs, tail one end, teeth the other, fire breathing variety)
Really?
Yes! Really!
It came over, slowing to converse
(towering over me, and peering down).
Hello large horse.
"Hello small person."
You appear to have run out of road
"You appear to be correct, I wouldn't have stopped otherwise.
I was considering jumping into your garden but it seemed a tad over ambitious.
If you like to move your car I could have a go"
No, no. Your just fine where you are.
Are you lost? You appear to be unaccompanied.
"To be lost you must be diverted from your destination
And I hadn't anywhere in mind
So, not exactly, more temporarily misplaced."
What lovely brown eyes you have,
And those lashes!
"Don't forget my legs, they're very long!"
And hairy!!!
By now the din has roused the estate from its slumbers
(or most of it !!!!!!)
People are appearing and rubbing their eyes in disbelief
"Has he got himself a horse now. Tut, tut! What next?!"
No, there isn't room in my garage!
It isn't mine, we were just talking, you know me.
I'll talk to anyone
(almost)
And animals make much more sense than some people
(horse sense?)
Some of the ladies seem to know what they're doing.
We get one of my strops over its head to stop it running off
"I wasn't going anywhere you know."
There's lots of places I don't know,
"I need to get my breath back and cool down.
All this galloping is hard work."
Do you think you could trim my grass while your here?
Just be careful or you could get a frog in your throat!
"Not what I had in mind when I came out!
I could do with a drink though."
Someone is despatched to find a collar.
The beast is led back to the road.
Perhaps now I can go back to sleep.
It's nice to have visitors,
But this isn't quite what I was expecting!

A horse is a horse
