The Present
Its Christmas again. This seemed appropriate:
The Present.
I wonder what it is?
Snuggled there beneath the tree.
Shiny wrappings reflecting the flashing lights,
Doubling the mutitude of tiny twinkling stars.
Its very pretty,
Huddled in its Christmas coat.
But I wonder what's inside?
It's big enough to be something useful!
Perhaps a handy piece of DIY?
(Wrong shape for a saw).
Perhaps it's an ELECTRIC saw,
That would be really good.
Then I could finish all those jobs I've been promising to do
(fingers crossed behind my back :-!)
Since last Christmas
(or the Christmas before!)
It must be a pretty long list by now!
If only I hadn't lost it
In some "safe place"
(Conveniently).
Or it could be a piece of garage equipment.
A battery charger?
(that would get me going in the mornings!).
Perhaps something for the car?
A spare wheel? No!
Thats just being silly!
(although I could do with one).
Or something for the garden?
A cheery faced gnome?
Playing something musical,
Rhythmically,
While waiting eternally for his train?
(metronome).
....Perhaps not!
A pair of wellies?
A set of tools:
Trowel,
Fork,
Gloves,
Razor edged secateurs?
Let me just check the weight,
Perhaps that will give me a clue?
I'm so excited.
I really can't wait to see what's inside!
Who's it from anyway?
That may help me guess!
Let me check this pretty label,
Oops,
It's not for me!

Re: The Present
I'm begnning to wonder if there is anyone else who lives over there, we never seem to hear from them. I hear its underpopulated. I still cant get my head around the fact that while we freeze, you bask in the hot sun! Or that you have gardens so big that they would be worth millions in London and would have 50 or 60 houses on. Even my modest tent would be worth about 10 times as much if it was in Westminster.
Anyway, its now Christmas Eve, so everbody have a wonderful time, just make sure you check the labels tomorrow morning!

Re: The Present
Hi Tater, nice to hear from you, and thank you for your seasonal greeting. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves.
It seems as though we've discovered another one of those universal nouns that isn't. A wellie is short for a wellington boot. A waterproof boot frequently worn for gardening. Great until you get water on the inside!
Wellie can also refer to the accelerator on a car as in "give it some wellie" (putting the pedal to the metal), but not what I was refering to in this particular case.

Re: The Present
"The present" has me smiling!
I didn't bother checking for anything. I didn't plan on getting anything other than a certain gift from far away.
Yet... others checked the labels... and opposite of this... I HAD presents
with my name on them. lol

Re: The Present
I can just hear the last of Jingle bells off in the distance. Bing Crosby is still alive and well on the old record player in my mind. (whilst it's packed away in a box somewhere) I am singing it for him... Christmas day is over, but it can live in our hearts all year long if we wish. Will you join me in keeping the spirit alive until next Christmas day? (((((Hugs)))))
With all the presents down from Mum's cupboard, I have some room to store the most beautiful angels from an angel herself ((((B)))) (-: Thankyou xxx... Can't wait to find a special place in my home.. when I have one again... to place the angels alongside a certain snowman. (-:
There are other people here in Australia.. I am seeing more than I usually do at this time of the year, by living in town at present. It's a bit of an eye opener just how many people walk around the streets on Christmas eve.. to this party and that... There were only the cows out in the country and none of them were wearing tinsel as they wandered past the house!!!
We had a beautiful mild Summer's day, 24 degrees celcius on Christmas day. (No melting that day)... I hope you all kept warm and cosy..
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all... Hi Tater.. Hope you had a good Christmas. (((Hugs)))
Wellie's... we call them gumboots. ha ha ha.

Re: The Present
Lorry,
24C sounds fairly mild for Australia in summer, even if it is still the first week...let's see, (24 X 9)/5 + 32 = about 79 degrees F?
If you don't mind my asking, what part of Down Under are in?

Re: The Present
Hi Tater.. I come from a land down under... The bottom of Australia.. Victoria. Quite often much cooler than the top half that has an oppressive heat most of the year. We, I consider, to be a bit luckier with our weather. We rarely have cyclones like the top end. 24 degrees c is just lovely.. When it gets above 30 and up to 45, I don't like it at all. Our Summer starts December 1, so we are nearly a month into it. We have had a few stinkers (hot days) so far.. and there are much more to come.

Re: The Present
Yes, that would make sense, as the northern part of Oz is much closer to the Equator. Funny that your summer starts on the first of December, as our winter starts on the 21st, and I always thought that our seasons were exactly the opposite of ours. Now you have me wondering just who it is that determines the exact day of the start of each season...

Re: The Present
Our seasons are.. Summer - 1st December till Autumn starts on 1st March, then Winter on 1st June, then Spring on 1st September.
I don't know where you come from Tater to know your seasons?

Re: The Present
Sorry, I just assumed you knew; how silly of me! I'm from the US, Philadelphia to be exact, on the East Coast. Our seasons all start on or close to the 21st. i.e., March 21st for spring, June 21st for summer, Sept. 20th for fall, Dec 22 for winter.
Of course, the official start of each season doesn't always match up with the real start or end of each season, depending on what part of the US you are in. For example, here in Philly, spring like weather usually starts loser to the beginning of March, but for Breezey father north and inland, it might be more like the middle of April. In Florida, it's closer to the middle of February!

Re: The Present
Sounds like your weather is like ours.. Just because it is officially Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring.. it doesn't mean the seasons actually know that... For example, yesterday was a scorcher and I got sunburnt even with sunscreen on and today we froze and it felt like a Winter's day, in the Mid of Summer.
