Passion Fruit
We now have our first (and unexpecred) crop of passion fruit. Trouble is I havent a clue what to do with them, anyone any suggestions (keep it clean!).
As I see it they have three bits:
skin
flesh
seeds
which to eat and which to compost?

The inside of a passion fruit reminds me of pomegranates.

Re: Passion Fruit
Thanks, weve been eating the skin and throwing the seeds away (no, no I am only JOKING!). Yes they are very nice, its the first time weve had them. They were a very unexpected bonus from those wonderful flowers I sent you a picture of. We dont see them in the shops over here for some reason but I think I may well plant some more.
Get the kettle on and Ill be around with a bag we can share!

Re: Passion Fruit
You don't see what in shops... the whole plant or just the fruit... or both?
If you like them, can grow them and have a use for them... then by all means, grow some more!
I'll be waiting to try some from your very own yard.

Re: Passion Fruit
There seem to be loads of different varieties. The flowers are similar, but different shapes and colours. They are without exception, beautiful. I havent yet seen any I didnt like.
Ive just got back and its dark. Ill have to wait until tomorrow to check the crop. Apparently its been foul weather here this week. Loads of rain (almost 2" since I went away). Thunder and lightening, and the power has been off! Its been like Summer in Scotland, sunny, hot, and not a drop of rain, and I missed all the fun while I was sunning myself.

Re: Passion Fruit
We use passion fruit for fruit salads. Mix it in with peaches, pears, apples, watermelon, oranges, pineapple, kiwi, grapes and berries.. Or we put it on the top of the cream on the pavlovas at Christmas time. The flowers are just beautiful too. We discard the shell and just scoop out all the flesh and use it all. It is lovely on top of trifles as well and also on yoghurt.

Re: Passion Fruit
Hi Tater.. P has it right.. It is a desert.. It is made of egg whites and sugar, beaten within an inch of its life till really fluffy and becomes a large meringue that we bake and once cooled, we top with cream and passion fruit, strawberries, mint choc chips etc. Really yummy, but mine tend to flop each time.. so I buy mine instead at Christmas time.... and pretend I made it every year.. lol They all know the truth.

Re: Passion Fruit
I must stop thinking about food but thanks for your suggestion. In my case that would be a lot of weight loss, and what better way to lose it. Im just about back into the 12stone bracket (or perhaps more honestly just about out of the 13stone one) and moving in the right direction. Back to slightly smaller breakfasts!
