Re: favourite works of art
I love the masters. I saw a Claude Monet exhibit in Chicago one time and seeing these up close just blows you away. Impressionism is another one of my favorites...here's few.

Re: favourite works of art
Here in Philly, we are a little spoiled by having access to so many great collections of art, that we tend to kind of take it for granted. The Art Museum (the Phila. Museum of Art, as it's known locally) does a great job, as does the Rodin Museum, The Barnes, and The Brandywine Museum, which showcases the local Wyeth family.
Speaking of Wyeth, I once saw a painting by Andrew Wyeth that really stood out to me, even though it was almost entirely different shades of gray and white. It was a winter scene of a grayish white farmhouse set in a snow covered field, with a light gray sky as a background. I was amazed at how much was conveyed using only a range of shades of gray.
Oddly enough, the first and only time I viewed this painting, it was not here in PA, where I live within 30 miles of his homestead, but in Jacksonville Florida, while I was living in Gainesville, Florida, and visiting the museum as part of an assignment for a Humanities Class I was taking at the local community college.

Re: favourite works of art
Daisy, while it was similar to that, it wasn't quite the same. The one I saw had no brown, it was pretty much entirely different shades of gray, black, and white. There was a farmhouse in the foreground, if I remember correctly, and a barn in the background. There were a few scattered trees which had bare branches. The sky was white or light gray (overcast), and the ground was covered in snow.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the painting online lately; maybe I'll just have to visit the Brandywine museum to see if they have it on display there.
