Re: Has anyone ever heard of Kombucha?
is that the stuff fed on sugar and tea ? i think, if my memory is right .
Quite a few years ago a lot of people here went nuts about it. i certainly had a lot of fun experimenting with it in different ways, and enjoyed drinking it ,do you have some now ?

Re: Has anyone ever heard of Kombucha?
Until two days ago, I had never even heard of it. I found an ad for someone offering to give away Kombucha Scoby.
So, you, problem child, actually tried it? What does it taste like?

Re: Has anyone ever heard of Kombucha?
hmmm...what does it taste like ? ...it was something like 20 years ago, maybe longer, don't remember exactly.I found it quite pleasant, but then, i'm not into sweet drinks anyway.my kitchen smelled like a brewery, with several bowls going all the time ,i even had names for them !!
It was supposed to be good for lots of things , including hair, i had a pancake size mould (that what it's called?) in the bath, and left it there when the water drained out, later in the day i discovered it had eaten(right word ?) some ingrained grime that i could't remove with anything else ! no, it did NOT move around the bathtub, just under where it lay
I don't know what skoby means/is ,but there were quite a lot of names for the kombucha.try it by all means, it is good stuff.some drank it warmed, but i liked it cold better.have fun !

Re: Has anyone ever heard of Kombucha?
My aunt used to make it,or something similar with a mushroom. Seems like you could make another batch from part of the old. She used it to clear up the old age,or liver spots and it worked.

This is what I found.....
Kombucha, the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]made from fermenting sweetened tea, is my family’s favorite beverage. We drink about 2 gallons of the stuff per week.
To make kombucha (see my instructions for how to do that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]), you only need two things:
1) Sweetened tea, and 2) a SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast), AKA “mother,” or “mushroom.”
Coming by kombucha mothers is easy if you’ve got friends making this “immortal health elixir.” Kombucha mother colonies periodically reproduce, so people brewing it have a constant supply of scobies to give away.
But what if you’re a lone wolf, daring to make kombucha on your own? Where are you supposed to get a good SCOBY?
The most reputable online stores can charge anywhere from $15-$35 per kombucha mother.
YIKES!
So, I thought I’d show you how to grow your own for about $3.50.
