Just curious about ranks

I am curious as to how we attain our ranks. I started off with a 'normal' and have quickly graduated to 'nutty'. How does this happen? Is there a list we can see?

And why do we have a private messages spot?

These are the ranks and points needed to get to those ranks. Ranks for this site are based on the nutty members! lol

One point is obtained for each post you make, and each topic you start.

Also, the second number under your point total seems to be your point total plus one extra point for each response you get to any topics you start. (At least, that's my best guess, based on what I've seen. For example, Daisy, your point total is currently 85, but under that, there is a second number, in your case 144. The approve number is your net thumbs up given by other users for any post you may have made. If you had 10 thumbs up and 2 thumbs down, your total net approval rating would be 8. By the way, I don't think any current user has ever given anybody a thumbs down, except possibly for someone who may have signed up to make one spam post and never make a single other post. Those people don't generally last on this site for more than a matter of minutes or hours at the very most, because they are quickly warned and then banned if they don't respond. Unlike certain other Q and A sites who will not be mentioned by their Sunnydale California megacorporate name, we take spam seriously, and it WILL NOT be tolerated.

Mr. Salad, that is so good to know, and I have followed your sage advice more than once. Are the trees turning yet in PA?

I really had to hunt for that one. Look to the right of your question or statement.....see a + along the edge and a .... under it. That is the TU and TD. I just gave you a TU.

THEN ... a skinny longish green line appears between the +/- signs
for a T/U.
Since no one has rated anything I've seen with a T/D ...
I can't say for sure, but I imagine a T/D shows as a skinny, longish
red line.

When/if that happens, they cancel each other out, and the net result is zero, the same as (-1) + (+1) = 0
